2019 New Orleans Saints: Trade Deadline

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Watching the highlights of the Cincy game .... This team could possibly win 1 game all season. They really need to listen and entertain the thought of trading AJ Green by next Tuesday. Preferably with the Saints....

Word on the streets is we’re thinking about making a move for WR Golden Tate. I read something about because of his suspension the guaranteed money on his new contract with the Giants was voided.

Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Trade Deadline

Thinking about this in light of my earlier post in "15 TD passes to go for Brees to become all time leader" I believe that the challenge will be to find a receiver that has the necessary skill set between his ears.

Three receivers who performed well in the Saints' offense include Thomas, Colston and Watson. None of these guys had speed, which really didn't matter because Brees doesn't have the big arm and rarely holds the ball long enough for the big plays to develop anyway. So, to fit into this system receivers need to be able to see what Bree's sees before the snap and find the seams for 5, 10, or 20 yards. One remark made about Colston was that his ability to read coverage was like having a 2nd QB on the field.

If you look as free agents and draft picks who have failed to develop, they all seem to fit this same pattern. So, any receiver will have to come with a high football IQ to have an impact.

I’m sure we’re calling every team about everybody. You never know where you might find a good deal.

Tate would be sensational in the slot.
Still leaves Ginn to open the field in 3WR sets add Taysom in on various TE, WRroutes with Cook out that's going to be hell to stop

Jets trade Leonard Williams to the Giants.

The Giants gave up more than they got last season in return for the best NT in the league (Damon Harrison)... Idiots.

Nuts isnt it

A 5th last year wasn't it?

Giving up a 3rd and a 5th for a DT when you
Spent a 1st last year on a DE in Lawrence too

Williams is a FA at the end of the year and they are going to be high end 3/5th too

Expensive Contract, we sign him, we likely can't afford to re-sign younger Eli Apple - pick your poison...

I like this team with two great CBs and only one great WR vs the other way...

Know it's frustrating none of the WRs have stepped up, thought they all looked better with Brees at QB, but I'd rather have two CBs that can ball out...

And for what it's worth, if it wasn't for cap numbers, agree Tate would be the perfect complement to Thomas...

Brees doesn't even have the strongest arm on the Saints, but he's got enough still, but more the experience and smarts, to release the ball downfield and generally be successful...

Though I'd agree that none of the three you mentioned had speed (and I'd mentioned Graham vs Watson), we did have speed on the outside to keep the safeties honest - and Ginn isn't doing that for us right now...

Also, the offensive line afforded Brees plenty of time yesterday to go downfield with it, but you can only give Ginn so many targets because of suspect long route running and unreliable hands...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
