Re: 49ers are scary good
Another page of the never ending Saints book of making mediocre QB's look like pro bowlers.
Cousins, Theilen and Diggs did nothing all game. Yet they torched us. Theilen worked Lattimore all game running out routes. |

Unfortunately you’re right about Allen. He is the last of the old cronies left but for some reason Sean keeps him around like a stray cat that wanders onto your porch and you fell sorry for him so you feed him but now he won’t go away. |

I am not kidding when I say fan bases of other teams look at us as a bunch of whiners and moaners. Go read on boards for other teams and any time the Saints are brought up, fans bring up all of our overreactions to the non-call. I read on other teams boards and I spend a good bit of my time hanging out with Pats fans. Those fans spend most of their time criticizing Payton for calling a bad game vs the Rams last year and this past year. Most of all though, and I hate this comparison but it rings true; it's like Raiders when they blamed the tuck rule call on their team blowing it in 2001. Oakland had many chances to finish the Pats off in that game and couldn't get it done. The non-call and yelling about "we got robbed" has become this team's identity. They talked about it all year rather than taking accountability for screwing around in that game. They acted like they were owed a SB appearance for it. The rest of the NFL does not feel sorry for us and I believe our constant screaming and overreaction to the non-call, was good motivation for many of these teams to show up and bully us around. The Vikings had ZERO pity for us last week and proceeded to push us around like a school yard bully in our own house. That's the difference IMO between us and a team like the Patriots. The Pats have had bad calls go against them here and there, but you don't hear Belichick constantly bring it up or demand rule changes. They take accountability and work to fix it. Watching the 49ers and thinking about the Saints is frustrating, cause these guys are playing like they really want it. They are tough and physical. I wish we could've showed up like this vs Minnesota. |

When the turnovers didn't happen though with Williams, those teams always struggled. I would STILL love to have Wade Phillips come in as DC. I know that is controversial opinion for some reason with fans, but I like Wade and think he could work wonders with the talent we have. I fear we're going to be in for a rude awakening next year with Nolan gone. He is mainly to thank for why we've had great LB coverage play and a pass rush the last 3 seasons. Our defense immediately turned a corner when he came in. |

In 2010, GW built the 9th ranked defense in the league, with Jo-Lonn Dunbar as our middle linebacker. They just went back to sucking the next year. |

I think what people don't want anything to do with Wade is the personnel changes that will have and need to be made. Some guys won't fit and some pieces will need to be added with little cap. |

It's true though. The defense did begin struggling when the turnovers waned. The guys over at Black and Gold Review blogs, even did an entire blog about it years ago, showcasing that the 2009 defense really wasn't all that great. Most of their turnovers were also built on playing crappy QBs. The first 10 weeks of the season, they played mostly mediocre at best QBs (Eli Manning, Mark Sanchez, Chad Henne, Kevin Kolb). I also like to remind people cause it's forgotten now - KEVIN KOLB became a household name for his performance against our defense. He threw for 399 yards, 3 TDs and 3 INTs in that game. Kolb was hyped up to be the successor in Philly, then even got paid in Arizona before it became obvious that his one big game was fool's gold. From weeks 1 to 11, the Saints averaged 2.5 to 3 turnovers a game in 2009. After week 11 though, the turnovers just completely stopped for the most part and they struggled. We most likely lose to Minnesota in the NFCCG if they don't keep turning the ball over. They were practically handing the ball out to us with those 5 turnovers. But we struggled all through that game. 4 of their turnovers came on drives that were in our territory including Favre's last pick. We really did struggle that entire game, as our offense really couldn't get much together. Even with all those turnovers we needed OT to barely get past that team. The 2010 defense ranked higher in stats but the turnovers were gone and I don't know what the hell happened in the playoffs where they just collapsed to the floor. True too about 2011. It's why I didn't believe in that team. Everyone acts like they were some robbed SB contender, but that defense was god awful. In the wildcard game vs Detroit, they gave up 28 points and Payton didn't trust them in the end to the point he went for it on 4th down twice and ran the score up to put the game out of reach. |

The retort I usually get though is "his L.A. defenses were terrible!". I understand that Wade was a bit of a disappointment not turning the Rams defense into a shut down unit, but I also don't think he did any worse than Allen has with us. But I can see your point on personnel changes and it's a good one to consider. |
Re: 49ers are scary good
I blew a fuse when the &%$#@! Seahawks died at the one inch line against the 49ers two weeks ago, forcing the 13-3 Saints to play another damn wildcard game against the &%$#@*! Vikings. I KNEW it would screw the Saints again somehow. Nice teamwork! I hate those two teams more than any other. All they know how to do is get in the Saints' way and roll over and play dead for somebody else!

True and to me pound for pound, i think Allen had more players on our d that are better than their LA counterpart at that position or will be better than Wade did in LA. But his coaching is something that will hold those guys back. Its just that we have really good positional coaches. Nolan leaving will hurt. |

Now the pressure is really on Lamar Jackson, curious to see how he responds... Titans QB Ryan Tannehill is showing up the Dolphins and that he's the good... That TD dime he threw on the play following the 4th down stop of Jackson was incredible... Maybe Saints may want to see how to hit a long ball in stride... |
Re: 49ers are scary good
Yep, Jackson about as accurate as your boy Cam Newton right now...
He's rattled... Showed when he lost his cool making the horse collar on the Byard interception... |
Re: 49ers are scary good
Kenny Vaccaro is now the Titans liability in pass coverage...
Other Titans DBs, even late season acquisitions, are laying out knocking out Lamar Jackson's passes... Wished we had some secondary coverage like that last week... |
Re: 49ers are scary good
It would be one of the most improbable things ever, but Tennessee just might ride Derrick Henry to the Super Bowl.

Re: 49ers are scary good
I wonder if Payton is watching Henry pound the rock. And still thinks his pass happy asre can open up the run?

Re: 49ers are scary good
LSU shut down Lamar Jackson back in 2016 by slowly collapsing the pocket and closing running lanes. The Titans are using the same approach. He throws and ugly ball so force him to throw. His dominance in the NFL has been grossly overstated.

But once the playoffs starts everyone is 0-0. It's a different animal. Mark Ingram & Action Jackson are about to join us on the couch. |

Re: 49ers are scary good
The Ravens are frauds and I find this hilarious.
Lamar Jackson = Mike Vick 2.0 All year, all we heard about was the invincible juggernaut Ravens and how they were going to win another SB. Jackson can be shut down. The Cheifs showed the world how to do it twice, and the Chargers did it last year in the playoffs. Jackson like Vick, is a fun player to watch. He can make plays with his legs, but he throws some truly ugly wobbly passes down field. I do not believe the Ravens offense is the future of the NFL.... Hats off to Ryan Tannehill for turning his career around and truly surprising us. |

Titans' Punter Brett Kern is an absolute weapon...

Re: 49ers are scary good
Hope Green Bay loses tomorrow.
The other fraud team needs to go down and besides, in a year where Brady and Brees are one and done, I want Rodgers to join them in that regard. |

Y'all do realize the Titans just won their second playoff game in a row with less than 100 PaYds in each game? We could easily win with Taysom, we just have to have a real commitment to run the ball and play defense for 60:00 minutes... And when Taysom takes the field, the players on offense show a helluva lot more fire than with Bridgewater in there - Taysom inspires... |

Even tonight, he hit on a deep pass for a TD and was efficient. If we had Baltimore's offense with Hill, I don't think the result would be any different from tonight. |
