Read my entire post, Brother '76! Today's game, we just don't see the volume of 3 LBer sets snaps like we did twenty years ago; we're in nickel, heavy nickel, or dime in over 2/3rd's of 'em...

And I'll expand on another point that was on my mind, but I failed to convey - Ireland is rightfully spreading the talent around on the field as much as possible...

And To me, the priorities on defense that will have the biggest impact need to be defensive line, defensive backs, then linebackers...

Now, we've got a talented roster, but grading elite at every single position is not realistic in today's free agent system...

So I'm satisfied we've got at least one elite linebacker, best in the league last year, and that the others can step up, complement, build around Demario's game...

I'm more concerned about opponents easily rolling protection up on Cam Jordan, double-teaming Onyemata and eliminating our base Pass Rush so easily...

And if you want to critique my temper on injuries, that's all good, but you're oversimplifying my frustration, so let's be clear what really frustrates me...

It's when we roll two-three-draft picks, or a great deal of cap money into a player that's perennially not available for the tournament or strategic conference games...

We've got a third round pick invested in Alex Anzalone, one; some of the other players are either a truckload of cap space or draft capital and we've nothing left...

That would more accurately encapsulate my frustration, temper if you want with our personnel moves...

As much as I like Cam, I like the Pats' approach of having a bunch of second, third day draft picks, and rotating young, hungry defensive lineman every game like Hockey switches lines...

And getting back to spreading the talent around, would you rather WR3, or a RDE2, or another boundary CB, or a scat-RB, or another LBer?

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

C (2) 51 - Cesar Ruiz (R1P24, #24),

I hope Ruiz is the truth in 2020 wherever he lines up this season ... like Ramz was a a rookie.

Ruiz will be Center, one of the reasons he kept/was assigned his jersey number (only centers can wear nos. in the 50s') per NFL RuleBook...

Ruiz is also very adapt at getting low, underneath interior defenders, and moving 'em out then letting Guard break off next level to the linebackers...

McCoy has better movement in space, that's why he'll be at Right Guard...

The way I heard it interpreted was that a center had to wear a number in the 50's, while the only offensive players that can wear the numbers are offensive linemen. A guard wearing a number in the 50's can also line up at center at anytime. A guard with a number in the 60's cannot unless he reports in to the official that he is playing center ... much like an OT reporting in as an eligible receiver because of wearing a non-receiver number.

Re: 2020 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

According to the NFL Rule Book, only centers are allowed numbers 50–59, though occasionally other offensive linemen are given numbers in this range.
The numbers used relate to the player's primary position when they are first assigned a number. If they later change positions, they can keep their prior number, unless it conflicts with the eligible receiver rule.

50 – Ben Hamilton, Broncos Right Guard
59 - Nick Cole, Eagles Right Guard
63 - Jeff Saturday Colts Center

Re: 2020 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

Rule 5. Players, Substitutes, Equipment, General Rules
SECTION 1 - PLAYERS
ARTICLE 1. NUMBER OF PLAYERS

The game is played by two teams of 11 players each.

If Team A has more than 11 players in its formation for more than three seconds, or if Team B has more than 11 players in its formation and the snap is imminent, it is a foul. Once the ball is made ready for play, if either team has more than 11 players in its formation prior to a free kick, it is also a foul. In these instances, game officials shall blow their whistles immediately and not allow the snap or kick to occur.

Penalty: For more than 11 players in the formation prior to the snap or free kick: Loss of five yards from the succeeding spot.

If a team has more than 11 players on the field of play or the end zone when a snap, free kick, or fair-catch kick is made, the ball is in play, and it is a foul.

Penalty: For more than 11 players on the field of play or the end zone while the ball is in play: Loss of five yards from the previous spot.

Note: It is not a foul if a team has fewer than 11 players on the field of play or the end zone when a snap, free kick, or fair- catch kick is made.
ARTICLE 2. PLAYERS NUMBERED BY POSITION

All players must wear numerals on their jerseys in accordance with Rule 5, Section 4, Article 3, Item 3. Such numerals must be by playing position, as follows:

quarterbacks, punters, and placekickers: 1–19;
running backs and defensive backs: 20–49;
centers: 50–79;
offensive guards and tackles: 60–79;

wide receivers: 10–19 and 80–89;
tight ends and H-backs: 40–49 and 80–89;
defensive linemen: 50–79 and 90–99;
linebackers: 40–59 and 90–99.

If a player changes his position during his playing career in the NFL, and such change moves him from a position as an ineligible pass receiver to that of an eligible pass receiver, or from a position as an eligible pass receiver to that of an ineligible pass receiver, he must be issued an appropriate new jersey numeral. A change in jersey numeral is not required if the change is from an ineligible position to another ineligible position, or from an eligible position to another eligible position, provided that the player has participated at least one season at his position prior to the change.

Any request to wear a numeral for a special position not specified above (e.g., H-back) must be made to the Commissioner. During the preseason period when playing rosters are larger, the League will allow duplication and other temporary deviations from the numbering scheme specified above, but the rule must be adhered to for all players during the regular season and postseason. Clubs must make numerals available to adhere to the rule, even if it requires returning to circulation a numeral that has been retired or withheld for other reasons. See 5-3-1 for reporting a change of position.
