I actually like the PJ re sign.

At worst he's good depth, knows the system and can fill in at safety (see Underhill tweet) if needed. Always admired his tackling ability too.

Championship.

Re: 2020 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

A bit of old news but saw this on Walterfootball...

"Saints re-sign G/OT Andrus Peat (5 years, $57.5 million; $33 million guaranteed): D Grade
Wow, I can't believe this contract. This is a horrible signing, but let me begin with the two positives. First, continuity is important for the offensive line, so retaining Andrus Peat allows continuity to happen. Second, Peat is still just 26, so he has time to improve his game.

All of that is fine, but this move deserves to be graded harshly. Peat is the worst starter on the Saints' offensive line. He's versatile because he can play both guard and tackle, but he's been a major liability over the past couple of seasons. To give him this much money is completely asinine. The Saints could find a similarly skilled lineman for a contract around two years for $5 million, just as the Buccaneers just did with Joe Haeg."

The Saints are 0-42 when running the ball less than 15 times in a game.

I've never been a fan of PFF analytics, however it's simply hard to ignore the ratings on what they graded Peat at in the games he played.

His overall number was 49.7. For rating comparison, his O line team mates:

Ryan Ramz - 91.0 (STUD)
Terron A - 80 (he's always hurt but still performs at a high level)
Warford - 73.1 acceptable for a vet
McCoy - 76.2 impressive given the position and he was a rookie.

When I utilize these numbers, I'd say it's important to use perspective.Kind of a head scratcher they gave that much coin to a under whelming, under performing former 1st round draft pick. We all hope that he will improve, but I'm not nearly as optimistic as others.

My hope is that we target another O lineman in the mid rounds of the 2020 draft to eventually replace Andrus Peat in a year or two.

It's truly mind-blowing on the amount of money we paid him. If we wanted to bring him back it should have been for 20% of that contract. This might be worse than the Byrd and Browner deals, time will tell and I hope that isn't the case.

Re: 2020 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

Well, more details have come out on Peat's deal (may have shared this via a tweet on Peat thread) that Peat will basically be an expensive one year rental with the money deferred over two seasons...

This is actually the correct approach considering both of the guards that'd be upgrades were tagged by their respective teams; and what they have with Peat has proven success, so they kept status quo...

If Peat gets this thing turned around or if an outstanding rookie guard comes in and balls out, it'll all be moot, and we could always trade Peat with a reworked contract minimized to our cap...

QB (3) 9 – Drew Brees (FA 2020), 7 - Taysom Hill (RFA 2020/Tendered First Round)

Who will become QB #3 on the Saints roster ?

At this point, they may want to see what falls to them in the draft, then they'll go out and get another veteran QB if the right prospect isn't there; if they really like a prospect, they may sign a vet for cover...

Know they've talked to Utah St. Jordan Love (comparable to Kaepernick, including the inconsistencies); also reports Payton likes FIU's James Morgan; another under-the-radar prospect is San Jose St QB Josh Love...

I've never watched Love play but the reviews are very mixed. From what I read he doesn't look like a Sean Payton QB. But what do I know?
