Know Dallas' defense is atrocious right now, but consider these things:

Jerry Jones' Dysfunctional Cowboys are where coaching careers go to die; players listen to the check writer, not the coaches...

Cowboys losses were at LA and at Seattle, and they lost at home to a 4-1 Browns team that has been the most underachieving team in NFL History...

Most of the Cowboys draft capital, and money has been invested on the offense and their three best defenders are out with injury...

Well, we know these givens...

Dennis Allen has been the DC since 2015...

Mike Nolan was hired as LB coach starting 2017...

Per ProFootball Reference the Saints have ranked defensively as follows

2015 32nd (Dennis Allen without Dick Nolan) 2015 NFL Team Defense

2016 31st (Dennis Allen without Dick Nolan) 2016 NFL Team Defense

2017 10th (Dennis Allen and Dick Nolan) 2017 NFL Team Defense

2018 14th (Dennis Allen and Dick Nolan) 2018 NFL Team Defense

2019 13th (Dennis Allen and Dick Nolan) 2019 NFL Team Defense

2020 27th (Dennis Allen without Dick Nolan) 2020 NFL Team Defense

So, I'd say Mike Nolan, on staff, had a significant impact; and without him on staff, Dennis Allen has been a clusterphuck as a defensive coordinator...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Strengths:

- 4-5 man pass rush
- run defense
- D Davis
- Kamara big-play ability
- Lutz FG kicking
- Sanders now up to speed and potentially great CGM/Sanders receiving duo

Weaknesses:
- penalties
- offensive play-calling rhythm is lacking so far, rather vanilla
- Brees' slow starts
- CGM needing a life coach
- no crowd noise, very little HFA because of 2020

We've gotta improve our D. With our current defense, the way we are playing, it's hard to watch. And I KNOW we've got the horses to get it done.

I heard Mike Detiller mention a few times that Dennis Allen's scheme is too damn complex. Why not simplify it and put players in position to make plays? PRob, Jenkins, Marcus are no rookies but often look perplexed out there. I refuse to believe that we have 11 scrubs out there on defense.

Collectively, we must play better on defense if we want to hang out with the big boys in late January.

Yes, but Dennis doesn't want to be second-bested by daddy-Sean, so he has to have as many substitutions and schemes on defense as there are on the offensive side.

I’m really not concerned about the defense.

I'm glad to hear you say that (seriously), wish I could say the same.

We’ve seen a lot worse as fans. They really only gave up 20 points last night. Brees gave the Chargers the other 7.

We gave up 20 to a rookie QB. We gave up 20 on the same busted coverages we've seen since week one.

If we don't come out of the bye week with a more cohesive performance in the secondary, good QBs will continue to exploit the weakness and we're at a best a one and done playoff team.

Hopefully an improved pass rush will allow DA to put his players in a better position to succeed.

That rookie just put up 31 on the Bucs and damn near knocked them off for us. He’s got weapons all over the field. Mike Williams is an AMAZING wide receiver. Hunter Henry is a great TE. A nice stable of young backs. I’m trynna tell y’all, defense isn’t anywhere near the issue we’re making it. The Raiders just put up 40 on the Chiefs and nobody is thinking any lesser of KC’s Super Bowl chances.
