I think Hill played a decent game, but turnovers and missed field goals were what stood out to me. I’m not concerned with a team giving up 24 points in a league catered to offense. We need to score. Period. When it’s all said and done the Chiefs are going to score. The Packers are going to score. The elite teams are going to score. Can you get stops at pivotal moments? The Saints defense did that. Offense has to answer the bell.

IDK Rez, while I do think the offense and ST (and coaching) were big parts of the loss, I don’t think it’s fair to brush off the D performance as just giving up 24 points in an offensive based league.

Philly hadn’t reached even 20 points in their previous 3 games. Saints hadn’t allowed that many in quite a few. The D gave up well over 400 yards and got 0 sacks....Allowed an obscene amount of rushing yards against a non rushing team. All against a rookie QB who they allowed to spank them (further fueling the belief that the team struggles against backups/rookies that some claim is “unfounded”). Now that sure as heck is a down game for what they had been producing and I bet every player on the D would be among the first to admit that.

Hurts was a spark against Green Bay and he built on that performance. They scored 24 but the offense gift wrapped them 10 with that fumble and the interception. If they scored 24 with no turnovers from the Saints I’d be a little more worried, but like I said before, the bulk of their yards came on one play. They weren’t getting all those yards on the ground from traditional run plays. It was QB scrambles outside of that one chunk play.

Sanders got 82 yards off one carry. He finished with 115 on 14 carries. The other 13 carries were 2.5 yards a carry. Again, I’m not concerned.

I hope you are right. Seems like I saw a few too many bad angles, broke tackles, and YAC to make me feel good.

I see that from every team. Steelers supposed to have the best defense in the league and I see it from them. Styles make fights. I’ve had the same gripe all year. The Saints HAVE to score. I don’t care if the defense holds the other team to a goose egg. If we win 10-0 I’m looking at the offense like wtf? That **** won’t fly against KC.

Ok and that’s fair enough. But don’t be surprised when people who look back over the years past in the playoffs with Minn driving it for a TD in overtime and the Minnesota Miracle And Vernon Davis and Beast Mode Lynch and many other times over the years the D let the team down disagree. Most Super Bowl dynasty teams had at least competent, if not superior Ds. The Saints have not lived up to that over Payton’s tenure. If you honestly feel that the effort the Saints D put up last night was worthy of a Super Bowl team that’s fine. I respectfully disagree and think it was the worst performance of the season. That stuff won’t last through the Wildcard round.

I don’t think the Saints defense is any worse than any of the Super Bowl contenders defenses. I’d say this defense is BEYOND competent. I watched people say “just give us a top 15” defense for years. Now we have a top 5 defense that just won us 8 straight. Even in the Minnesota Miracle game Brees was throwing picks. Vernon Davis? No excuses. Our defense was all time trash. Trust me bro, don’t be concerned. Well...against the Chiefs...be very concerned. They do it to everybody.

Not buying it Rez. Is the defense “trash”? Nope, not even close, it’s a very good defense, but it’s also a very good offense, and a very good special teams unit. On that Sunday, all three phases failed, including the defense. Your comment referring to 82 yards being the “bulk” of the run stats doesn’t fly. 246 yards allowed by the Saints from the opposing team, who and where it comes from is unimportant, an 6.8 yard average and that 82 yard run was only ⅓ of the total given up. There was another 164 yards allowed outside of that 82 yard TD run. Philly ran ALL over the vaunted Saints run defense. Two, count them TWO 100 yard rushers in the same game. And two of four 4th down conversions allowed, that should not be a 50/50 allowed stat, it just shouldn’t be. 0 of 4 is preferred, I think 1 of 4 would be an below average day. That’s 2 turnover on downs missed, it shouldn’t happen.

Offense failed

Defense failed

Special teams failed

If anyone if those groups stepped up, it would have been a win, but almost all the “game changers” went to Philly. I’m concerned for all three, yes, including defense. That being said, I’m more optimistic for the future of this team than I’ve been over the past three years.

That’s a fair assessment. For me, I’m not concerned. Yards are just yards. I don’t feel like our defense was dominated. All those yards and we lost by 3. It’s just not concerning to me. If the damage was coming mostly from designed runs it would be different for me, but he was just scrambling. It’s easy to get chunks of yards that way. I wish Taysom did it more.
