It's almost like re-living the Shanle conversations from years back...

His whole collegiate and pro careers have been plagued by injuries, which isn't really his fault. I do acknowledge that I'm a bit of a Anzalone fan, and maybe even an apologist, but I do honestly think he is an above average LB in the league.

Anyway, he is probably gone after this season, so we'll get to see if it was the coaching/scheme or the player himself, which kept him from being a better player for the Saints.

Honestly, I'm more concerned about Baun's progress...

The TD with .22 left in the 3rd. Anzalone’s guy all the way.

This should be the last year that he looks lost in a Saints uniform. Hopefully!!! Too many blown coverages, bad angles and poor tackling resulting from those bad angles. I liked him at first but he has regressed each year and he stopped shining to me a long time ago. The FO traded and replaced him with Kwon if that tells you anything.

Kwon consist at overrunning plays and missing tackles, our run D got worse and worse with him shooting backside gaps and not closing or overshooting and allowing cut backs. He consistently plays the run undisciplined. However, he is far better at coverage, but not as good as Davis.

I am not advocating for Alex to start... I’d like to see Baun play against CAR, but the true need for us it to get healthy on the D line again.

Edit:
Most of you seem to be short sighted... this D ranked 7th during our worst stretch (first 4 games). This defense has been solid when they don’t commit penalties and allow hidden yards. Since those first 4 games you could argue our next worse would be the last 3 games, all of which Kwon started and we allowed gashing runs... again not all him.

Those of you praising Kwon are the same ones calling for DAs head during the first 4 games of the season. Clueless then, clueless now.
Exactly right. Kwon is good but he isn't the greatest either. His bad read is what allowed the long TD run by Sanders in the eagles game. DLine and Brown being available is the key.

I'm not exactly the biggest Anzalone fan but he's been pretty consistent all year... better than Kwon as some have pointed out. The difference IMO is the energy Kwon brings which isn't measured in stats.

Stats aside, I noticed a marked improvement in the ENTIRE defense when Kwon came aboard. PFF can't measure that. It also leads me to think Anzalone's teammates possibly don't trust him.

Exactly.

Saints need to find a capable back up in case Alex goes down as we enter post season. I love Craig R but he's too slow and nothing more than a special teamer at this point of his career.

Demario won't be able to roam now that Kwon is out.

And how did you come up with that stretch of a conclusion? Perhaps it had something to do with facing four straight abysmal opponents in his (Alexander's) first four games (SF, ATL, DEN, ATL).

Well, several reasons but for one, Anzalone’s playing time decreased with each week. He couldn’t cover passing routes. He couldn’t blitz. He missed too many assignments.

Would you trust him?

It surely is a loss. I feel bad for the team and more so for him. Hope you rebound Kwon. Smarter folk than me will have to figure out how his injury impacts his contract and how he and the Saints move going forward. As a consolation he will get a Super Bowl ring because he is a Saint !
