Re: I'd like to try and get Derek Carr
The longer this goes on the less confident I am he’s coming to New Orleans.

To me, two years is not some ridiculous QB carousel. I don't think the teams that have great QBs and won rings lately got there by being so impatient that after two years they broke the bank and tied themselves down long term to get an okay QB who would technically be an upgrade. They waited to get someone who could be great while still preserving the resourced to protect them and give them tools to succeed. Or they found a way to get a good but not great QB at a great cheap price so they could stack their defense and oline. If we don't want to end up like the Bills between Kelly and Allen, perhaps we should not sign the modern equivalent of Drew Bledsoe, a QB with a 9 year history being pretty good but not great who would perhaps be an upgrade but not enough of one, when we don't have a good enough team to win it all with just a small upgrade at a big cost. |

The pursuit for Watson was evidence that the front office was trying to cleanup the QB wasteland that Sean Payton left the team in after his departure. No, I was not a Watson fan but feel strongly that you cannot compete in the modern day NFL without above average QB play. Saints were not the only team that held their nose and step into the fray, they were all in the same living QB purgatory. If we don’t land Carr Saints prospects for landing a QB thru the draft is a very long shot/high risk play at best considering where we fall in the draft. Carr can be a bridge QB for the next 4 years which give us time to draft QB’s with the potential to be our future starting QB. Moving money forward on exiting contracts does not cost the team 1 penny more, it’s like interest free money going forward knowing your future cash flow will cover and exceed your operating cost. I suspect we will start seeing significant roaster turn and churn over the next 3 years, younger and cheaper throughout the roster. Spend it this year or over the next 2 years you basically end up spending the same amount regardless how it’s accounted for. Improvise, Adapt and Overcome. |
