Re: I'd like to try and get Derek Carr
Nothing in life is guaranteed. That is why the bum on the street does not waste time applying for a job or getting sober in hopes of improving their life. Why waste the time when there are no guarantees? Using that bums logic, why try to find the next jahri evans or carl nicks by valuing mid round picks when we have Andus Peat and we don’t know for sure a replacment of won’t be injured 8 years in a row. Anyway I’d love to buy Mickey a 40 in a paper bag. I think he would be better at drinking it than running the Saints. He could have as much as he wants now, and the consequences would come later, but he could mitigate those consquences by having even more of the same. But I am not invested in his liver, just the Saints salary cap and future, so it would work out better for me.

Re: I'd like to try and get Derek Carr
A first round pick doesn't guarantee a viable QB. Quite the contrary. The majority of first round QB picks end up being nothing more than serviceable. Most likely no better than a Winston or Dalton, actually.

I'm all for getting Carr as long as they cut him.

Re: I'd like to try and get Derek Carr
I really hope we can get him. I don't think he would break the bank. Surround him with a good run game by adding a (draft)couple rb.'s, and beef up the(FA and draft) O-line, another(draft) TE and (FA only) WR. The O's woes could easily be fixed. I'm dead serious about trading Kamara, he's a great back for his skill set but not a good feature back. The comp we get for him should be a late 2nd or early 3rd.

As far as AK41, I'd be open to see what the market could bear. He's still got gas left in the tank, but age, injuries, and a pending suspension make his value to the team questionable for 2023. Why not? |

Re: I'd like to try and get Derek Carr
Is Carr an "upgrade" over Dalton? Yes, certainly.
He could be competitive in a very weak NFC South division. Forward-thinking.. the Saints still need to draft a young, athletic QB to sit and develop for a year. Just don't expect dramatic change with Pete Carmichael still holding a play sheet . But yeah, DCarr could be a realistic option for the Saints in 2023. We'll see. |

Re: I'd like to try and get Derek Carr
It's kind of a tricky situation with Carr. He has a contract clause that kicks in on February 15. It guarantees 2023 salary + $7.5M of 2024 salary. His 2023 salary is $32.9 million. He also has a full no trade clause.
In addition, according to the league calendar player trading is not allowed until the first day of the new league year which would be March 15. The Raiders could theoretically cut him prior to that February 15th date in which case they get nothing in return. Or they could do a "wink/wink" deal now to take affect after the trade freeze is lifted and then book it as a post June 1st trade prorating the $40 million cap hit into 2024, as well. In other words, if he is still on the Raiders' roster after February 15th we'll not know anything on him until a month later. |
