We shall see .
I don't think anyone outside the front office would have imagined we were going there. There were a lot of surprised folks out there and I was certainly one of them. We value the RAS score highly and Turner has all the measurables to be good. He didn't have an injury history before coming here. Neither did Pete or Armstead. Hence the new conditioning coach after a record number of replacement players last season. Everyone could see the writing was on the wall.

I'm pulling for the front office to draft a tackle in the first round. You win in the trenches and our drafting history indicates that doing this helps the QB and RB proliferate. We have had one of the best O-lines and D-lines in the NFL in recent memory thanks to first round picks on the big uglies. Yes, we missed on Pete and possibly Ruiz, but our line coach is going to change things up to suit their skills best. I read somewhere where he will change the blocking scheme in the offseason.

The Saints won a Superbowl with an offensive line that didn't have a first rounder on it. They just did a good job of drafting and coaching. We need some more of that.

Bucky Brooks predicts the Saints going QB.

Matt Corral at 18.

If either Jameson Williams, Johan Dotson, or Trey Burks are still there at 18 and we select a damn lineman or project QB ...

Look at the recent Super Bowl champions… Their O-Line’s have maybe one first round pick at the most. We’ve invested more than enough into our O-Line; to the detriment of the rest of the offense. We need pass catchers who can get open.

That's a valid point stickman. I have to add that the recent trend in New Orleans has been to invest heavily in the trenches in the first round and then draft well in the second and third round, which we consistently do. We even trade up into the second and third all the time for a player that we value. It's our bread and butter. Look at Kamara and MT who are stand outs. Last year we were able to land Werner and Adebo who played lights out. We also do well with our mid round picks like Onyamata and CGJC. Not only that we are always finding diamonds in the rough with our UDFA's.

This methodology has us in contention every year. Even after losing a once in a lifetime QB and coach I believe that this system works for both offense and defense. It's one of the reasons we've had one of, if not the best rosters for several seasons. Covid slowed us down with cap cuts, but we have a rock-solid foundation.

Back to my original point. You Win In The Trenches. It's true in both rugby and football.

Trading away those Round 4 and 5 picks every year catches up to you...
