Here's what I love about this draft.

We sit with two picks in a range where top tier talent always falls because other teams reach.

Therefore we're likely to get two quality starters and I'm prepared for that to be WR & T or LB and DE. I'll be happy either way.

I'm also prepared (actually expecting) a trade back into a higher round for someone we covet.

If the draft doesn't go our way, it seems like two veteran probowlers at S and WR can be signed immediately.

Use them with picks or trade down... just don't trade up. No need to trade up... at least more than we already have to get that second #1 pick.

Yep.

Not to mention, trading up in the 1st rd is expensive as hell.

The value just isn't worth it.

You are aware that Loomis has never traded down, but has traded up 15 times. He has always stuck to the philosophy of quality of picks over quantity of picks every single time.

I agree with your premise, but after the Payton Turner pick last year I’ll be a little bothered if DE is one of first two picks. DT and Safety are in more need for us than DE IMO.

Draft choices are made in terms of best player available rather than need quite often, don't you think? Probably MOST often. I think good pass rushers are always at a premium and you can't have too many. That said, I'd be surprised if one falls to us there, anyway.

Time to shred all those mock draft sheets ... I'm expecting more surprises tonight than an Amber Heard marriage.

I think it's a real possibility the Saints go edge rusher on Day 2 though.

Or maybe a DT3 with pass rushing abilities?

Heck, I’d take another run stuffer. The biggest key to the recent success of the Saints D has been the ability to stop the run and make other teams try to pass.

What do you mean an extra 3rd rounder? Are you talking about the possible 3rd rounder that some are associating with the signing of Dalton? IF that was to come into play it wouldn't be until 2023, not this season.

At some point the league just needs to tell them, we can't keep ruining rookies careers. You don't get another top 10 pick

5 straight defensive players. The first OT has to come off the board here to Carolina.
