Re: 2023 New Orleans Saints: Training Camp

Can't post a link by Jeff Duncan from earlier this morning however I'll paraphase ...

Granderson (undrafted) is competing with former 1st rounder Payton Turner for the starting spot left by Davenport. In his words "it's not much of a competition".

Carl G continues to improve as a run defender & has been an effective pass rush in camp. Bascially holding his own up against the Trevor aka Junk Yard Dawg.

Interesting take by Jeff D by saying "it's not much of a competition".

Well, guess I'll be looking closely at the DE spots on Sunday vs ELITE competition ... Patrick M is set to see action for a drive or two.

Re: 2023 New Orleans Saints: Training Camp

There is a position battle in New Orleans Saints training camp that is red hot, and upcoming preseason action should answer a lot of questions for the Saints.

There are several camp battles for certain spots in the lineup of the New Orleans Saints, and it seems like the majority are on the defensive side of the ball. One that is probably the hottest at the moment though, is the competition to see who will be starting at defensive end opposite Cameron Jordan for the Saints between Payton Turner and Carl Granderson.

Turner has been showing out so far in camp, which is a welcome sign in the building considering the Saints used their 28th overall pick in the 2021 Draft to bring him in, and the return of investment hasn't exactly been up to snuff... yet. Sometimes that happens though with defensive linemen, see Brandon Graham with the Philadelphia Eagles as a bit of a pipedream example.

Sometimes the step to NFL takes time. Look at Trey Hendrickson. A third rounder that didn't look great the first two years and then BOOM 13,5 sacks the third year.

This is great. Adds a lot of depth to the DE spot if we can have Granderson and Turner both balling. Hopefully Foskey develops as well.

This here!

"I don't look at it any different than you look at any player. Look, injuries happen. This isn't like the same thing that's happened to Mike three years in a row. He's had some different things happen. What I don't question is his desire, his work ethic, the things that he's done 10 miles overboard in getting himself ready. And no one wants it more than him."
