Re: 2023 New Orleans Saints: Training Camp
I would trade Lutz for a late pick. Kickers are a crapshoot and better to pay less for one. You don't get rid of a rock solid kicker when you are hoping to contend but Lutz isn't rock solid and I don't see us beating Maholmes or Hurts, etc. Might as well get the pick and save cash. Part of the compensation would be to account that we are effectively paying much of Lutz's salary since much of his cap hit this year is a roster bonus we already paid so he will be cheap for Denver.
I honestly wish Haener was our starting QB. I don't know that we would have less upside, cause like what if he is good? But we could also be healing our salary cap and prepared to add a lot of weapons next year if he is good. And if not, we would have a high pick and a salary cap that is not tied down. |

Re: 2023 New Orleans Saints: Training Camp
I agree. Thing is, kickers can win or lose games for you. And as far as I’m concerned, having a stable and reliable kicker is key to winning close games. If both teams can’t win it in the trenches and they’re pretty evenly matched, the kicker may be the only thing going for you.
I don’t like the feeling of a kicker walking out there and feeling like someone punched me in the gut. I certainly don’t get Morton Anderson vibes from Lutz. But he’s better than a lot of kickers in the league and I feel pretty confident when he walks out there. I do miss the days of Anderson walking out and I could literally get up and go get a beer or take a leak because I knew that was pretty much automatic. Lol. |
