Re: DENNIS ALLEN…

If Josh Dobbs can learn the Vikings playbook well enough to QB them to 2 wins in his first 2 weeks on the team, I reject the assertion that a smart outside coach who doesn't have to work out or physically practice cannot possibly learn our playbook enough during a bye week or even a regular week to provide an upgrade over Carmichael. A new coach could not change our system over night but he could absorb it and look for gradual improvements and better play calls.

But if we wanted someone familiar with our existing system just so Dennis Allen could hire a guy more on his level not an intimidating rocket scientist like Dobbs, I still don't think Curry is the only option. We have been running the same system for over 15 years. That is 15 years of past offensive staff and backup QBs who could be interviewed. Some of our past offensive coaches under Payton may be currently unemployed. Or we could call up Luke McCown, Joey Harrington, Mark Brunell, Chase Daniels, they would know our system.

And honestly, the oline has improved over the course of the season more than the offense in general. Doug Marrone could step up to OC. He can't be worse than Carmichael. At least he adapts and has got the offensive line running better. Our early season oline struggled might be attributed to forcing Penning to start at all costs to justify Loomis, Ireland, and DA's pick and trade to get Penning, and Marrone may have been a victim of that.

None of this is to say Curry is a bad pick. Never met the guy. He might be an amazing dynamic leader and the next star head coach. Or he might be super meak and shy and afraid of leadership and a poor man's Carmichael brought in to make Carmichael feel like the ultimate alpha coach. But I don't see Curry as the only option. We need accountability. Any change removing the guy who is failing now shows accountability, and even changing to a coach who is completely equally incompetent might improve the performance of the team just by sending the message that everyone is accountable and has to prove themselves not just count on a spot because they are in tight with Pete.

As for Pete Carmichael don't worry about him. He stuck with Dalton and Carr over Winston at all costs. There will always be a gun and a badge waiting for him at the Kenner PD.
