Nah, you're not alone, just folks don't want to talk about that, or the line (on either side of the ball) or the defense in general or the bad case of the dropsies the WR had. Heck, I remember someone on this very forum try to make a point that it was Brooks' fault that our defense couldn't defend a screen pass. Yep...people went THAT far.

They never want to give him any credit, not for the numbers, not for the come from behind wins, not for the playoff win...nothing, however they wanna blame him, and pretty much him alone, for all the problems, and it's like arguing with a stop sign.

C'mon Man...

First off, for the record, I voted that he should be in. Now, to address this smiling thing.

I believe there is a clinical condition that explains this phenomena...I just don't know what it's called. It brings to mind an episode of the Bob Newhart Show.

In that episode, Emily was extremely P.O.'d at Bob, or disappointed about something...I can't really remember exactly...but Bob, knowing he shouldn't, could not help from smiling as she was ranting about whatever it was. He was trying to hide it, but eventually could not.

I have been in this situation, and I'm not really sure what causes it...but I think AB's problem, and possibly the others mentioned, may share this infliction. Just a thought, though.

Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're right!

Stats don't tell the whole story, as always.

I can't forget the smiley grins after those boneheaded bad interceptions! AB caught lightning in a bottle for an extremely small glimpse in time. Once opposing teams had a chance to study him, he was average at best. And there were enough bad teams in his day to pad the numbers. He was not consistently stellar against elite competition, but rather more of a liability. Breesus has shown us what a HOF QB should look like. HOF'ers usually separate themselves more than what AB showed.

I disagree. Brooks had a mediocre offensive line at best, a less-than-stellar WR corp (with one or two exceptions), and a defense that was giving up 30 points a game, not to mention the Delhomme love going on in the dome.

Where might Brooks have taken the team if the Offensive average of 28-30 points a game was getting any backing at all from the defense at the time? The Superbowl? Maybe. Maybe not.

Brooks was a good, not great, but a good QB who annoyed folks with his mannerisms but did a lot of good things, and might have done more with even a mediocre defense.

Personally I'd rather see Brooks smile than watch Delhomme pout, but that's just me. I say put him in.

I think the Ring of Honor/team HOF should mean more than just "club stats".

I voted yes. We did have a prolific offense under his helm... it's hard to argue with the numbers he put up. Now had we had a better history of successful quarterbacks in the past to stack him up against, maybe it would be a different story.

The smiling was ridiculous! The good out weighed the bad for the most part though. Yes

Makes me sick to say it but yes. Guess my anger should really be against the coaching staff for not replacing him sooner. So any future vote for Haz in the HOF would be no!

Re: Should Aaron Brooks make the Saints Hall of Fame one day?

All the Brooks hate has always rubbed me the wrong way...the boy could throw. He wasn't perfect but he could throw. SaintsHall=YES. One of the few QB's we had who could actually hit someone in stride beyond 17 yards. Mike Mac's exit was mentioned earlier as the end of Brooks, but I say Willie Roaf's exit got him killed. When his blind side came open, he was never the same. And what the %$#@ does smiling have to do with anything? He took things lightly so that he could move on; brush it off so he could line up and take another crack at it. QB's have to have a short memory...on the bad things as well as the good. Give Brooks his proper due.
