And thats why i agree with the trade
Cooks wasn't going to get us over this slumo. Drew time is running shorter and its time to throw the chips down. Cooks was an expendable assest. The front office took the best offer available and will try to improve the defense. The move up from 4th round to end of the 3rd is a bonus and could be the difference in a player we want.

The offense has lost 1100 yards.
With an improved defense take some yards off. You can easily see Thomas and hopefully Fleener covering a third to half them yards and Ginn can easily be a 4-700 yard receiver.

A new slot receiver/3rd down back will cover the holes too. This isnt loosing a Graham/Colston type thats also a massive red zone threat.

Changes needed made

So SP was just blowing smoke up everyone's a$$ when he said it would take a significant offer to trade away Cooks.

Changes were needed, but we resigned low energy amidst another 7-9 debacle. BC probably not the change we needed. I hope we get a great player at 32, and I hope BC ****s the bed in N.E. I want us to be the winners, I want us to win our division. I am not seeing that we have done any of that.

Our defense stinks because our recent picks and FA moves stink. Sorry, but that's just reality.

What else would he say? He can't tell teams they can have the guy for nothing. Ya gotta play the game, act like you don't want to part with the guy, if they think you are just trying to get rid of him, they aren't going to offer much.

Let's remember at this time last year the "Experts" were crying because of our poor WR class. "No real #1" By the end of the season it was "The best WR trio in the NFL!!!"

Now we're sending a Top 5 proven NFL wide receiver, 23yo, healthy and our 4th round, pick 118 to New England, for the Patriots' first round, pick 32 and third round, pick 76...

And as I said on the other thread, it's not realistic to expect to recover Loomis/Payton's reach and overpay to get Cooks, but damn, to have to give up two picks in return again?!?

AND to see that 4th round pick killed by Goodell for Deflategate; why not trade back in the fourth before and get a fifth round pick first - Just, D*mn...

New England NEVER loses in trades...

Forget the salary cap hit by Cooks bonus in a few days, but we've only once seemingly won on a trade (Graham to Seattle) and even that's in jeopardy because we took a near rookie of the year on defense and turned him into a marginal roster player making the trade more even now - Unger has been a gem...

But now, it would seem, the Mickster is back to his old self and buffoonery - Bet Benson would have never let Mickey near his car business back in the day...

Were we ever able to confirm the Titans offer? Are we sending Cooks further away thinking we won't hear his name again? Something's amiss and I'm sure we'll hear Coach P with his doubletalk, new speak spin before long where he says a whole lotta nothing...

This further damns Payton/Loomis' credibility in trade negotiations as now everyone in the league will know they're FOS on standards "it would take a significant offer"?

MFer, C'mon Sean! You're a great X&Os man but stay the f*ck out of the business end of it or you'll be a one-hit wonder...

I remember there was crying by some experts about how we were going to challenge for the division and had improved so much with all the great draft picks. We ended with exactly the same record as the previous 2 seasons, and 3 of the last 4.

**** shinning and a turd polishing

Re: Brandin Cooks Officially Traded to Patriots

Look guys in the end we didn't end up with much less than we gave for Cooks. The draft picks are important this year and Cooks wouldn't have been as important. Thomas would've eaten up a lot of Cooks yards, Snead will take some more and the younger receivers, well their young and will take up the rest of the slack. Maybe we look at another Sproles type and pass, pass, pass! Cooks is a good player but he wouldn't have made us good enough to win the division, now 2 picks on the other hand might? It's a chance we must be able to allow our Saints!

agree with most on here, although we don't like what we did on this trade. This must have been as good as it gets. We have to make changes to set what we want in the end.

I read Cooks got into a shouting match with coaches after the Ram game.

A malcontent that was gone next year for a big asking price. We didn't have much leverage and 31 other teams probably knew it.

I'm guessing the extended wait Friday was we were trying to get the best deal. This was the best deal on the table

It does make me wonder if he was going to be released ASAP anyways. If so, we got an extra draft pick in the first and moved up a few spaces from the fourth to the end of the third. I know I was all starry eyed thinking about getting one of the Titans first rounders and this or that player, but if we were getting rid of him regardless then hey. We came out okay... maybe even better than okay.

Doubtful as it wouldn't have been in the team's best interest. This is the best timing for two reasons:

1. Cooks was owed a $750K roster bonus Monday.
2. If the Saints were not going to pick up his 5th year option, then he would be a free agent one year from now.

In short, this was the best time for a trade. If a suitable deal was not to be had, the Saints would had kept him at a cheap price this upcoming season then let him go into free agency with nothing in return.

and so....

Exactly. Many are complaining that the Saints got screwed. The bottom line is that trying to play hardball would leave the team letting Cooks go with nothing in return.

Told everyone here BB was going to fleece Payton and Payton was going to smile about it. I surely wouldn't have given up the 4th with the draft being this deep, Payton got creampied. NE has to many WR.'s now, I look for them to trade 1 of their WR to get some of their picks back.

Re: Brandin Cooks Officially Traded to Patriots

So what you keep a player that has made it obvious he doesn't want to be here. Likely wont re-sign and the Saints wouldn't want to pay him.

What do you do other than take the best offer thats there.

There was obviously no Titans offer of 18 without more going back. Most think they wanted tbe Saints 2 and Cooks for 18. A far worse deal.

I can agree with this to a point but was it us doing this or NE dragging their feet in the trade knowing today that we would have owed Cooks the money and waited to offer up a better deal to their liking. My money is on option #2.

How exactly is Cooks a top 5 in talent at WR? He wouldn't put up the #'s he did with 3/4 of the league's qb's out there.

Don't think the deal was good but I agree they took what they could get. Sort of like shopping for something you really like but can't afford and have to settle for something less. We just have to see how it turns out for us. Reality SUCKS! Cooks must have really pissed them off.

Cam Jordan was on Twitter complaining about the move. We might as well send him packing too. We don't need anybody who can't keep how they feel about trades to themselves.

Almost all losses by less than a score with a D almost dead last. Think he would be grateful we are going to address it and improve his squad.

Well we are paying cam way too much for 7.5 sacks. Do your job and shut your mouth. Hell at normal people work most people can't say what they want without getting in trouble. What makes them think they are untouchable. If someone paid me millions to play/work half the year id do it with a smile.

Not much of a difference when you chose to trade the player away before the 5th year can be picked up.

Well he is playing with Tom Brady so that isn't even a relevant argument. He was 7th in yards last season, his third in the league. Pretty good rec

He isn't a QB

He isn't a #1 reciever

We are a system that doesn't need a 1 or 2 guy. He fit our deep threat guy and we replaced him. He is expendable for D help and we cut him loose now why we have something to get in return. Next year nothing for him...

The other part of the problem is that there was talks of trading with other teams and everyone's hopes we'd get a highter pick. Those havn't been proven to be true and or didn't pan out. This is what we got.

And half of those losses were on the offense also. We are potentially going to make the team better. We don't know who is going to be there or what Payton it's thinking. We said the same thing when we traded J Graham. Two years later we aren't any better...still 7-9. Like I said before their is a cultural problem with this team and I believe it's impacting the morale of some of our better players.

What's done is done....but we can't screw this up again. Potential only does so much.

7th in the league in yards, pretty good, pretty good. Most yards on our team.
