And whines about every pass thrown to anyone else. Too many good hands on this team to have to throw to a big ego. We can't say this about many positions, but in the case of our WRs it's not man up, it's next man up!

we are getting rid of a proven top tier wide receiver just because he is going to have to be paid someday?

this is pathetic

You make it sound like Sean & the Saints front office owe us transparency.

I like the move for the Patriots, but I think the Saints are the winners of this deal. Cooks made it known that he didn't want to be on the roster anymore, and the Saints have two strong receivers without him in Michael Thomas and Willie Snead. New Orleans now has two first-round selections in a very deep draft, so they can use those picks to improve their woeful defense.

The part about the money I agree with you on, and at least we got something while we could. You can only pay so much for offensive players and he is going to command a pretty big contract. More than likely. If we get and sign Butler then we did something that fans have complained a long time we haven't, put money into the D. I don't know the result and I am not for paying 15 Mil to Butler (if that is what it costs) butthe trade looks better if it is a Cooks for Butler swap and we moved 15 spots from 118 to 103. Just my opin

show me more than one comment at one game where Cooks "whined"

this isn't Terrell Owens.

this is strictly money
glad we didn't let Colston go with his first pay day over $.

I certainly hope Sneed and Thomas can still get open as often without Cooks drawing key focus in opponents secondarys.

You're right, I was exaggerating a bit there. However I do feel I'm spot on about next man up with our receivers. We win a lot when we have seven or eight different players catching the ball throughout the game. Loosing Cooks is not going to have much of an impact on our offense, if any.

we have shown a next man up winning mentality

and many ex Saint players do take a step down leaving Brees' offense.

I think we didn't get enough
roughly an early second round pick
maybe Butler is thrown in, who knows

if we can actually find a defensive stalwart with our 2 #1 picks or trade up for the difference maker (or maybe not)
then this won't taste so bitter

#32 carries the 5th year option which makes it FAR more valuable than #33. That an extra year at the lower salary if a team wants to exercise it.

I would rather pay a great player who has performed for you the $$

then have a fifth year unproven entity on the cheap

don't we have an easy salary cap this year

that isn't what smart teams do... Tell that to the NE Patriots. Smart deals dump players demanding big contracts and get some younger cheaper talent to develop. Look at the compensatroy picks over the past 10 years.

Those of you saying we actually got a 2nd round pick, stop. You're being stupid.

with all the QB now apparently dropping in the draft as the reality that as a group this years batch ain't all that. pick 32 is followed up with Cleveland at 33 and san fran at 34, who are both QB hungry, followed by a few others is a beautiful thing.

32 could be a beautiful trade bait resulting in getting premium trade value then and some.

Or, they select a prime prospect. I know you LOVE your trade scenarios.

Cooks said in an interview the other day that he was good at picking his quarterbacks. Which I thought was pretty stupid because he didn't pick the Saints because they picked him and this was a trade which he said he didn't ask for.
