I'd be p^ssed if we took Gesicki were Taven Bryan or Leighton Vander Esch still on the board; our front seven on defense is still way too light. But I'd prefer to move back a few spots at that point and then take NT Harrison Phillips or TE Mike Gesicki.

You're right about the big target problem on third down and red zone attempts, and signing Cameron Meredith will go a long way in solving the big target dilemma.

You don't always have to solve that problem with Tight End.

Definitely. We need to upgrade opposite Cam Jordan - that should be our priority in this draft.

And I'm not sold at all on the Demario Davis signing - one good season and now will uproot and reestablish in yet another defense?

I'd prefer Leighton Vander Esch if he somehow fell to us...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Listening to Matt Miller’s “Stick to Football” podcast and they’re running through a first round mock draft... They have the Saints getting DT Vita Vea. I didn’t really think it would be possible for him to still be on the board when we pick but now I can kind of see it happening. How much do teams view him as just a two-down NT? Those guys tend to go later than expected.

Don't forget he'll have Nolan as his coach here. He very well may be better than ever.

That’s a very good point AG. Davis is very intelligent and has the great athleticism to go with it. I guarantee Mike Nolan ID’d him as the guy he wants leading the LB group.

Sean Payton: No QB prospects as good as Luck or Wentz in this draft – ProFootballTalk

“I don’t see Luck in this draft, and I don’t see Carson Wentz, who I liked a lot coming into the draft,” Payton said. “I’d feel a little bit uneasy if I were at the top of this draft and I decided I had to have a quarterback. The pressure to get a quarterback is so great in this league, I get that. But we can’t create ’em. I wouldn’t be surprised if only one of these guys is left standing in four or five years, and if so, I’d guess it would be Sam Darnold.”

Maybe we can put to bed any speculation about trading up for a QB... and no I don’t think this is a smokescreen.

"When you get into one of these groups, there's only a couple of ways you can get out. One, is death; the other, is mental institutions."

Yes, that's fair and important distinction to make as I've often beat the drum for Nolan myself...

Still, not sold on this signing and the amount of money involved - have to wait to be proven wrong in the Fall which I'd gladly embrace as a Saints Fan...

Why is he running at the mouth now? Jedi mind tricks often back-fire at this time...

Davis has excellent character, smarts & physical tools at the position. Also 100% committed to winning. And he never misses games. From Jets blog readings, his game has gotten better over the last 3 years in coverage. Overall DD was ranked as the #9 LB. That's head and shoulders above anything we have now + he has sideline to sideline speed & often arrives with bad intentions.

Dude just has a Ben Watson vibe about him. What's not to like about Demario ?
