Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
The competition for Davenport is almost identical to DWare's & KMack's when they were drafted. MD's measurables compared to these 2:
MD 6'6" 264...DWare 6'4" 251...KMack 6'3" 251 40 Times---MD 4.58...DW 4.60...KM 4.65 Bench---MD 22...DW 27...KM 23 Vertical---MD 33.5"...DW 38.5...KM 40.0" 20 yd Shuttle---MD 4.41...DW 4.07...KM 4.18 Broad Jump---MD 124"...DW 122"...KM 128" 3 Cone---MD 7.2...DW 6.83...KM 7.08 Cam Jordan's measurables: 6'4" 287 40---4.78 Bench---25 Vertical---31.0" 20 yd Shuttle---4.37 Broad Jump---117.0" 3 Cone---7.07 Ware 8 sacks & 47 tackles rookie year Mack 4 sacks & 59 tackles rookie year Jordan 1 sack & 18 tackles rookie year I wouldn't expect MD to tear up the league his rookie year. For the other guys mentioned, all had break-out years in their 2nd/3rd year. My guess is that it took them that long to adjust to NFL speed. MD will have the same. If he's motivated & has the right coaching, look out. |

Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
NFL.com synopsis of AK41's weaknesses last year: "WEAKNESSES Vision can be hit or miss. Not an instinctive runner. Needs to see running lane develop and is missing a feel for reading progressions of his blocks. Makes inconsistent decisions on stretch plays. Can be his own worst enemy on third level. Will run himself into a tackler rather than setting him up for a downfield blocker. Consistently cuts left when given an open-field choice against tackler. With knee injuries in his background, combine medicals could come into play. Needs to tuck ball high and tight to prevent fumbles."

Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
Giving up next years 1st round pick and this years 5th is expensive and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.
