Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
We needed a pass rusher to get to the next level. Barely escaped Newton and co. then the Vikings faceplant. It was a problem. We over paid but so what. Have to do it sometimes. I totally overpaid for a Caddy but we love the car! All the bells and whistles that actually provide some cool features. If one wants that stuff immediately it's gonna cost. We paid it and nothing is saying it should not work out. He's not tapped for talent and not injured. He is also lined up with one of the best and good coaching. All +++'s. I can't think of any real negatives other not not getting a bargain but we got that last year so splurge a little. We blew up the draft last year. Almost NEVER happens. Time to come back to reality.

Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
Also to note, the "experts" claimed that there were only about 15 or so players this year worthy of a 1st round grade.
We nabbed one of them. |
Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
On paper, best Saints team to ever take the field IMO. Where is the weakness? Maybe depth on lines, LB's but everyone has that problem. Thinking we improve that with the remaining picks. Backup OL and a LB. Maybe a flyer QB or RB.

Saw Chris Simms and another saying he looked like a Clowney clone but he reminds them off Aldon Smith and DeMarcus Ware

Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
If overpaying is the difference in getting to the QB and not getting to them then so be it. Be disappointed next year but thats next year

I wanted Lamar Jackson or Derwin James. I’m fine with this though. Great pick.

Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
When I see people question the competition Davenport went against and how he is from a small-time program it makes me think of a guy like Armstead.
The other side of that coin is that he probably didn't get the highest level of coaching in a smaller program, and he can really blow up with the help of the Saints' coaching staff. A big fish in a little pond can only grow so big and needs a larger lake to reach full potential. I don't think they overpaid... I couldn't care less about the 5th rounder or the 32nd pick next year. |
