This draft is reminding me of the 2014 one so far, a lot of picks on guys that have the words "raw, high upside and potential"

We know how that worked out, SJB, Davis tull etc

Why when draft look like they drafted awful prospect the blame is on Payton but when it turn out to be a exceptional pick Ireland is the reason? :/

I am gonna say it and will gladly eat my words if I am wrong. THESE DRAFT PICKS STINKS and I wont be surprise if all of them is out the league in 3 years.

Have you seen any of these players take the field yet for the Saints?

If not ... :rolleyes:

I have to be quite honest and say I have never watched a UTSA game and knew very little about Mr. Davenport.

Been reading and watching everything about him now and I like the pick.

When you have a small-school prospect like this you wanna see him dominate the competition and he does that, oftentimes destroying it.

He seems like very grounded person. Articulate and comes across as mature and intelligent in interviews. That should help him make the jump.

His physical stats are obviously off the charts. If he can live up to his physical potential he will be worth 5 first rounders.

What I like the very best about him thou is something he said in an interview when asked about the best part of his game;
"My work ethic" was the answer and with an that gives me great hope that his potential is within reach for him, he seems to understand whats needed to reach it.

Interesting fact
2017 we had 5 picks in the top 76, all starting for us
2018 we had 1 pick in the top 90 ( our 2nd pick was pick 91)

In other words, if we only get one starter from this draft it ends up being as good as last year's. Two starters would make it better.

You know what? Zach Strief makes a very good point here and calms some of my worries about the Davenport situation...

@ZachStrief
Elite defensive ends cost either very high draft picks or LOTS of money. If you find one you love, I'd MUCH rather hit on one in the draft than HOPE one becomes available in free agency. Trust your assessment and get the guy you believe in.

This echos what the draft analyst (can't remember which guy) on the NFL Network said following the trade and selection. After the speculation that the trade was made to move up to get a QB, he said that DE is the only other position that would warrant this type of move. Given the scarcity of impact making edge rushers in the league today I agree completely!

I think it's a great pick. Swing for the fences. We need to win now. Drew won't be here forever and whoever comes next will not be as good so suring up the defense and adding OL to help the run game and pass protection will help once Drew leaves.

My "panties" aren't wadded at all. :D It just appears that there are a few pairs around that definitely are, though.

:p

I'm fine with Ryan Nielsen getting the guy he wants. If you weren't paying attention, ALL of his D lineman from NC State were drafted this year. ALL of them.

Besides, not the FA market for DEs in 2019 is that great either....
