this is a discussion within the NFL Community Forum; Americans don't like the Anthem protests. Period. It hasn't got one single thing to do with race, no matter the stammering and stomping of those who insist it does. Nothing. The first Amendment protects the right to protest, but it ...

Nothing. The first Amendment protects the right to protest, but it does not do so while on the Job. The NFL numbers are down. No way to argue that. The numbers don't lie. They will drop again this year. Bet the farm on it. |

Re: NFL preseason sees kneeling, raised fists, during national anthem
All TV numbers are down across the board. The NFL’s drop is substantially less than anybody else’s. Sunday Night Football was still the highest rated TV show last year, and Monday Night Football only dropped 3%. A significant portion of White Americans don’t like the protest, but they also don’t seem to like any form of protest that isn’t driven by Conservatism. We can go back and watch videos from the 1960’s or read the Gallup polls and plenty of them said Blacks had equal opportunity during the Jim Crow era and that the Civil Rights Marches were silly and unwarranted. One of the comments said that “people know history”. Obviously not. I’m trying to figure why y’all haven’t abandoned the message boards and just stopped watching. It’s easy. Counter protest.

If you're trying to attribute the NFL numbers being down roughly 9% to other media, knock yourself out. The NFL isn't readily available on other media. This isn't about race. It has never been about race. It sounds like you're arguing that the protesting isn't hurting the NFL numbers. It also sounds like you're trying to compare us white folk and "our" dislike for the players protesting the Anthem to Civil Rights Marches...and the Jim Crow era? Those will be the two silliest things I will read all day. |

I don’t care what you do or don’t like. You won’t stop it just like your ancestors didn’t stop the Civil Rights Marches when they were whining about that. So no, I’m not “trying” to do anything. I’m making a direct comparison in the dismissive nature shown throughout history when Black people air out their grievances. It’s about race, and it’s always been about race, considering the protests were sparked by Black men being killed by the police and a call for reform in the justice system. You should be thankful for a Kap, Cam Jordan, and Malcolm Jenkins. At least they’re still interested in talking it out. I suggest you find common ground and figure it out with people willing to rationalize with you. I’m not one of those people. I don’t agree with the protests, because I don’t believe in asking your oppressor to stop oppressing you. I just find most y’alls reasons for being against them disingenuous, and I speak to that. Y’all can debate amongst yourselves about “who the real oppressor is”, but you’ll only be convincing yourselves. “If you beg a man for victory and he gives it to you it’s his, not yours.” - Stokely Carmichael |

I mean, I guess it’s fine to equate civilian on civilian homicide to public servant on civilian homicide in some circles. Like I said, just be happy they’re protesting about it. It definitely wouldn’t be my approach. |

You're arguing with a guy who is himself a closet racist. No amount of logic or reasoning you attempt is gonna get through. My ancestors were dirt poor german immigrants, but as far as he's concerned we're all descendants of slave owners and we're all somehow guilty of the sins committed by people who are all long dead now. *shrug*

I don't find your hatred amusing anymore. It sounds like you're on a mission to fight an imaginary enemy and harm innocent people along the way. As a fellow human I implore you, please reconsider your hatred for others based on their skin color or ideology. |
