I’m leaning towards Allen. But if they are not going to promote from within, I’d search through Pittsburgh’s team for ideas. They’ve maintained success
through changes in both coaches and QBs. Bottom line is the Steelers have NEVER really “sucked” for a stretch while I’ve been watching football. That’s a rare thing. Just a thought.

This has been a great discussion. It's almost like the excitement of draft time when I'm learning about the different prospects the members each like.

I was in disbelief when my twin brother told me that Sean Payton had retired as the Saints coach. I thought for sure that this was click bait like the Payton to Dallas nonsense each year. Jerry Jones and the Benson's ownership style is on opposite ends of the spectrum. Sean wants an owner who will step back and open up the check book for his vision. That's not Jerry Jones style at all. He is someone that is too hands on considering he has zero football knowledge.

If the organization wasn't as sound and supportive, I may agree with you

He's from the Parcell's cloth and what did he say about Jones/Cowboys organization, "they want you to cook the meal, but won't let you shop for the groceries" or something like that....but it lends credence to what you are saying.

All this Cowboys talk is meaningless. What ties does he have to the organization? He was an assistant coach almost two decades ago. That's pretty much it. His ex-wife used to live there. I doubt that's a big draw. They haven't won anything in decades. Certainly no winning culture.

I wasn't saying anything about Payton going to Dallas, or even looking at the job....meerly responding to anothers' post. So please don't include me the Payton/Dallas hype. What's meaningless is you commenting on it.

I'm leaning toward Dennis Allen as the hire for continuity reasons. However, I always liked Leftwich. I remember a game in college where he was playing QB for Marshall and somehow injured his foot during a crucial drive in the game. His linemen picked him up and carried him down the field after he threw a completion so they could run the next play. You could see how much they respected him as a leader. That has always stuck with me.
