Everyone asking whether Winston is the best option for the starting QB job in New Orleans but I have not seen one question regarding whether New Orleans in its present condition is the best option for Jameis Winston.

The guy is a free agent and arguably the best free-agent on the market, why does he want to come here? Money... Head coach.... Good receiving corps.... A notable talent to develop him.... Stop me when I hit on something we presently have that other options do not.

I’ll throw a few out there. One is he and his wife are from Alabama, so they are close to home in NO. Two is the ability to stay put in a home and not disrupt his families lives much by moving (especially to play in a cold weather city like Pittsburgh). Three is a continuity with the offense and OC. Four is Michael Thomas and the high likelihood that other quality receivers will be drafted/signed. Five is the fact our division sucks compared to just about every other division in football (again, VERY unlike Pittsburgh). Those are selling points I’d use.

Now that’s a great question. I think Pittsburgh is a very enticing destination for him. He’d have a top 5 running back, an ascending TE, and a great receiving threat in Diontae Johnson.

However, he’s from the south. New Orleans puts him pretty close to his home of Alabama. There probably won’t be that much change in the offensive scheme so he knows the playbook. The fans truly have begun to soften up on him after seeing what life was like without him. And we gave him a chance when the world was against him. I hope he stays and is given the job he earned. No QB competition necessary.

I think that part in bold is important, it takes time to get comfortable in a new system. I would also add the fact that he seems to be very liked by his teammates on the Saints. Sometimes that stuff is more important than earing another 200K on a different team.

And knowing the playbook is only part of it. With Carmichael still in place as the OC the actual terminology should be the same. I have heard many a QB say that the most difficult part of transitioning to another system, whether with another team or with the change of systems with the same team, is mastering the new terminology. And this is coming from very intelligent individuals.

How would you know how 'intelligent' they are? You, for example, have a degree. I know this because you've made it a point to let us all know on more than a few occasions. But you're not very smart without twitter. So, how would you know?

I can agree with your post. I think he still signs here to stick it to Tampa, not the only reason, but a win over them with him under C has to feel good mentally if nothing else. I doubt he would ever say it, but.

Guess we'll see.

Scratch off Desean W, ARod, Jimmy G & Russ. Not realistic options.

Just to give you an idea of QBs that will hit the market in Free Agency:

Andy Dalton, Tyrod Taylor, Geno Smith, Old man Joe Flacco, Fig Newton, 2Glove Teddy, Mariota, Trubisquit, & the Harvard Guy (Fitz).

PLAN B could get mediocre to ugly if JW signs elsewhere.

From that group I'd only bring in Teddy!
