Yeah, it did suck late in the game. He admitted as much himself.

Re: Do you rest Winston?

Not to derail the thread, but Mark Ingram needs to hold on to the football.

IMO his fumble changed the momentum completely.

Washington and TJJ played well against Tampa.

Yeah. Like I said, it totally changed the atmosphere in the Dome.

I agree with you on this. Dalton is not likely to be amazing. Play him only if Winston is hurt enough to be worse.

I would also say this is why it was probably not advisable to sign him while it still affected compensatory pick calculations and may cost us a pick down the road. We could probably have gotten him later when it didnt affect the calculations and if not, well, there are other solid backups and he isnt the greatest. It might have been smart to ask Sean Payton which mid round QB prospect he thought was the worst in the 2022 draft and pick that guy. Probably would have found the next Tom Brady givens Sean track record with mid round QB picks, but at least we would have been able to try out someone with a possible long future if Winston doesnt work out. Dalton is probably just Winston 0.5.

Winston didn’t get a lot of preseason work with the WRs. Kamara didn’t play. If Ingram doesn’t fumble at the 10 we punch it in and it’s a different ballgame. Can’t overreact to a close loss to a league darling when the refs are screwing you.
Our D has made Brady look like an avg. guy 5 straight games (including playoffs). So, I’m not worried that the Bucs did it to Jameis once.
Heck fun fact: in the Bucs 2 SB seasons, they didn’t win any of their regular season games against us.
So after 2 games, our season is far from over.

Re: Do you rest Winston?

Jameis Winston has arguably more at his disposal than Drew Brees had for the last several seasons. Including an elite defense.

JW doesn't need to be Drew Brees. Just run the offense and keep mistakes to a minimum.

If he can't handle those two aspects then yes, we give Dalton a chance.

Re: Do you rest Winston?

I maybe in the minority on this one, but I don't blame the fumble on Ingram.

He wasn't holding the ball like a loaf of bread; IIRC he had both arms around the ball. The defender just made a good play.

I don't disagree with that at all. But the fact is that the fumble did totally change the complexation of the game. I don't blame Ingram personally, but note the fumble was critical.
