Do you rest Winston?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Resting to be 100% is a myth. Football players are like phone batteries they decay over time and after the first week or two of regular season 100% is just 80% capacity....

Re: Do you rest Winston?

I admire Winston for wanting to play and try and get the team back to winning ways but he's taking a pounding out there and that can't be good for the injuries he's carrying at the moment!
Also, I don't understand how he "seems" to be intent on going for the long passes most of the time when there are other players that are wide open who would probably pick up 6 or 8 yards or maybe even the first down! Maybe I'm missing something here perhaps! Just seems strange decision making though!

No, you aren't missing anything he's around 10% and an INT when going long to Olave.

Personally it reads as though he thinks he can overcome our inability to overcome being tied for 24th in the league for 3rd down conversions with hail marys.

Right now Winston has 4TDs and 5 INTs.

Re: Do you rest Winston?

Winston's Scouting Report Weaknesses:
  • Decision making not consistent with his football intelligence
  • Will throw into impossible windows rather than taking safe throw underneath
  • Elongated windup and release allows instinctive defenders to close on throws
  • Was too easily baited into dangerous throws
  • Struggled with intermediate passing game in 2014, completing 56.8 percent of his passes with FBS-leading 11 interceptions in that range
  • Still learning nuances of position and how to move and hold defenders with his eyes
  • Would sleepwalk through first half of many games
  • Inconsistent footwork and weight transfer caused balls to sail
  • Prone to emotional outbursts on field
  • Quality of decision-making drops off substantially when pocket becomes turbulent and he's forced to leave it
  • Lacks athleticism to extend plays for very long outside of the pocket
  • Off-the-field character and ability to lead on NFL level are his primary obstacles, according to NFL evaluators

I can't recall seeing him use the pump fake to move DBs or to help him elude pass rushers - something that Brees did frequently with great success.

It's those little things that seem to be missing from his game.

Re: Do you rest Winston?

Winston is completely confused out there. Can't diagnose & read coverages on the fly. This is what made Brees elite. Blitz #9, you got burned.

Unless the protection is perfect & WR's are running high school wide open, this offense will suffer in 2022. Then add in the fumbles, interceptions & offensive penalties. DRIVE KILLERS.

Pete C is no rookie. He has to clean this up with the play selection.

No way to sugar coat it but JW and this offense is struggling.

Re: Do you rest Winston?

Five of our first six possessions were stopped by either penalties (two on Trautman, one on McCoy, and one on Ingram) or the Kamara fumble. The next two possessions were failed field goal attempts. McCoy added another holding call later to doom another drive.

There's plenty of blame there to go around.

Mental mistakes due to a lack of discipline are usually addressed by leadership. Mental mistakes on the field now because leadership isn’t on the field, mental mistakes on the field in the preseason with the 2s and 3s because it isn’t on the sideline either.

None of your ad nauseam fellatio will change that.

That's fine. I just choose not to ***** because it helps nothing.

I'd be remiss if I did not point out that your reply is distinction without difference... What you choose to do helps nothing also. Maybe some consistency is called for.
