I think what they saw in Jackson alone made Elliss expendable. Before this past season Elliss had been seen by many around here and elsewhere as a bit of a bust. He stepped into Werner's role and looked pretty decent. There's really no reason why Jackson, Anderson, or Orji couldn't do the same, if needed, and for a lot less money than Elliss got on the free agent market. We have typically drafted well under Ireland in the middle to late rounds, where you find players who slipped down, and have good position coaches. I strongly believe that we need to develop these young players rather than rushing them off the roster for a vet who has already reached his ceiling. Unlike DD, who came into his own in and blossomed in New Orleans.

BTW. Is Onyamata built to play DT in a 3-4? I thought you needed a space eater there.

Nah. He’s more of a 3-4 DE.
