I have heard your question addressed dozens of times to players, coaches, and GM's, over the years both currently active and retired. To a man every single one of them stress that players and coaches alike give it all they have to win every week regardless of other factors. Every game for them is a real job interview going forward. They also consistently insist that the whole concept of quitting is a fan generated concept, as is the whole tanking concept.
