Leading all receivers on your team in a playoffs loss is not necessarily a good thing. It means the opposing defenses game plan to focus elsewhere worked.

TE just doesn't work like other positions in the draft. Yes Adam Trautman was a horrible disaster, one of the worst Saints of all time, and he was a mid rounder, but we were Kelce, Kittle, Gronk, Gates, Graham, etc. Just imagine our infinite 4 straight super bowl glory if we took the first TE off the board Cole Kmet instead of waiting to the mid rounds to take a shot on Trautman. In this case Kmet has been decent I grant you, but he has never made a pro bowl and when he was taken the following players were available taken in the next 10 picks: antoine winfield jr, jaylon johnson, trevon diggs, jalen hurts.

The draft is a crapshoot but TE is different because the biggest stars are divided almost evenly between rounds 1-7 in terms of where they were selected. At other positions, like half the big stars come from the first or maybe 2nd round.

We need better talent at TE but the best way to get that is to spend more picks at the position in Rounds 2-7 not to ever waste a 1st round pick on it. If you are going to draft TE it would always be better to trade back out of the first round. The Ravens for example addressed TE with a sure thing HOF lock championship glory 1st round TE in 2018 and then took a flyer on a second rate mid round TE later in the draft. The 1st round TE was Hayden Hurt and the late 3rd rounder was Mark Andrews. This is not the exception at TE this is the rule. This is not the one Brock Purdy miracle story. Most good TE come from later rounds.

Denver just resigned Trautman to a 2 year deal.

Sean will be out of Denver soon.

You aren't winning many games in the AFC with the likes of Trautman, Krull, Lil Jordan etc. Not to mention about 10 or so former Saints assistants/coaches.

Broncos current starting QB is Jarrett Stidham . Good luck with that.

Ok, now that Chase is on board …

Saints need a quality TACKLE in the draft.

Maybe they address it @ pick 14.

Troy Fauntanu - T
Washington

Per reports "good movement for zone blocking scheme. Physical run blocker and traits of a plug and play starter".

1st and 2nd round grades.

I know we probably won’t, but I bet we could trade down while attaining a second rounder in the process and he’d still be available in the later part of the first for the taking.

I’m sure they’ll be a can’t pass on talent drop to us at 14 though…

Yawn… You need a new Head Coach, and a real Quarterback.

Murphy would be a nice addition in those trenches & teaming up with Bresee.

Especially considering we lost Malcolm Roach in Free Agency.

The New Orleans Saints were one of 31 teams to attend the UConn Huskies pro-day, the UConn football team announced. The Tennessee Titans were the only team which was not represented at the event, with everyone else being accounted for. So who were the Saints scouting?

Two Huskies are widely considered to carry draftable grades: right guard Christian Haynes and defensive end Eric Watts. Haynes is generally seen as a second-round prospect, while Watts is considered to be an fourth-round grade. Both players attended the NFL Scouting Combine, and both performed very well which will likely boost their draft stock (and keep them on New Orleans’ radar).

Draft Thomas and give him #13 so all the fans can keep wearing their jerseys. Although, I'll guarantee you there's still going to be a lot of Thomas #13's anyway. Other than Kamara's #41, Thomas' jersey was easily the most common jersey in the Dome this past season.

I really hope we don’t go wr with our first pick. I’m thinking we go OT then DT. Edge/DE could be a possibility if someone good drops to 45, I just don’t know if there’s anyone that’s worthy of pick 14 other than Turner and maybe Latu

Probably little chance we make all 7 picks. Some will be combined to move up a little.

Here's a new almost complete mock draft for the Saints. They left out one of our 5th round comp picks, but still have 8 of our 9 picks represented. I like Luke McCaffrey as one of the 5th rounders.

I would be happier if we went oline with every pick in our draft that if we went with another position in the first round. If some of the 5ths dont make the team, fine, competition is good. If they all show up, maybe cut or trade Penning or Sadeveri.

Re: Official 2024 Saints Draft Discussion

It appears that some people are still confused as to our picks. He have nine, not seven. From the most recent story link above:

The New Orleans Saints currently have nine picks in the 2024 NFL draft. This is what they are:

Round 1, pick 14
Round 2, pick 45 (via DEN)
Round 5, pick 149
Round 5, pick 167*
Round 5, pick 169*
Round 5, pick 174*
Round 6, pick 189
Round 6, pick 198 (via PHI)
Round 7, Pick 239 (via DEN)
* - indicates a compensatory pick

I'd be shocked if we didn't use some of them to bundle and move up a bit. I also suspect we'll dip into 2025 picks, as well. They'll, of course. be the final picks in each round. ;)

“We should” but this organization has no interest in putting legit competition behind Carmax.

Absolutely no chance Loomis & co are interested.

Sad really.

The hip-drop tackle was introduced to the league within the last couple of decades. Just ask Rugs, it came from rugby and has since been banned in rugby due to the rash of serious injuries involved. It is no less dangerous than the horse-collar tackle and from what I have heard even more likely to cause serious injury. The NFL is just correcting their mistake of adopting it, as well. From what I'm hearing it probably won't draw a penalty, but will result in a letter from the league and a fine just like some other infractions.

When the competitions committee votes unanimously you knows it's something that was a major concern.

Players are against it, officials won't call it, so what's the point?

The NFL wants increased scoring so they're going to turn the NFL into the NBA by playing no defense while implementing an MLB strike zone for tackling. You can't tackle high, you can't tackle low, and tackling from behind will be difficult.

Sounds like we're in for a treat.

This is no different than making the horse-collar tackle illegal. The only reason the NFLPA is against it is because of possible fines on defensive players. Offensive players have been in support from what I heard. The hip-drop tackle wasn't even used until Pete Carroll introduced it to the league about 10 years ago in this video. He took it from the rugby game.

As I mentioned earlier, the hip-drop tackle has since been banned in all major rugby leagues because of all the serious injuries it was causing. Pete Carroll has now been at the forefront for having it banned in the NFL, as well. There were dramatic unexpected consequences from its introduction. I can see griping about high hits and/or low hits being "softening" the game, but until very recently the hip-drop was never part of the game to begin with.

And ONLY some defensive players are against it. Virtually all coaches are in support of the ban because of the rash of severe injuries involved.

NFL officials back proposed hip-drop tackle rule change amid protests

"NFL officials responded Thursday to protests over a proposal to outlaw a version of the "hip-drop tackle," a technique the league says has resulted in an injury rate that is up to 25 times higher than on tackles when it is not employed.

"As gatekeepers of the game, this is something that we have to remove," said Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, during a conference call with reporters.

According to competition committee chairman Rich McKay, the proposed rule was written to address only a subset of the rugby tackling style that has spread around the NFL in recent years. It calls for a 15-yard penalty if a defender grabs the runner with both hands or wraps the runner with both arms and unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips and/or lower body, landing on and trapping the runner's leg[s] at or below the knee."

Keon Coleman
6'3 WR Fl State

The Saints have set up a visit with Florida State WR Keon Coleman, per source. The Louisiana native is 6-foot-3 and had 11 touchdowns last season. Also returns punts.
