OldiesDJ posted this, but I will too.

Pros: Harper has received little national attention as a prospect, but astute scouts are well aware of his all-around abilities. He has strong run-support and cover skills. He will fill hard and fast and really strikes a blow. He is aware and alert playing back in zones. He has good ball skills and can make plays on the ball. In run support, he reads the play quickly and reacts with strong hands that allow him to get off blocks and finish with reliable form tackling. He is a tough in-the-box safety, despite marginal size for the role. He has the toughness and durability to be a good NFL starter, but may be better suited for strong safety rather than the free safety. He has above average recovery speed for the free safety spot and his coverage technique has improved significantly over his late career.
Cons: He has only average hip flexibility and stays too upright in his backpedal, causing him to lose a step in transition. He will be slow to come out at the break point and allows separation in man situations.
Numbers: At the Combine, he did not work out due to a hamstring injury.

I wonder if we will ever hear the FO try to justify this pick?

You know what Timay... maybe in a day or two when I'm not fuming from missing the draft and the selection of Harper, I'll start being a little upbeat about it all and try to forget we selected whatshisface. But until then... it's my rant time!

I don't think there was ever a knock on Harper as a player. I bet the guy will do just fine in the NFL. No question on his potential.

No, it's more a question of what pick makes more sense for the Saints.

To me, a possible (or likely) stretch at a safety didn't make sense. I mean, it was the #43 pick... #43..... that's a pretty damn high pick. The team likely could have gotten more value at that high a pick.

Was Harper projected to go that high? Worse, was safety a need?

This is what I'm *****ing about. As I suspect others are.

It's still a good day - Bush, Faine. What an uncharacteristically good day. It's almost weird to have a draft this good. It's only - it could've been better.

can anyone help me id this tune? it goes thwap thwap boom tch boom tch boom tch.

Qui a laissez sortir les chiens!

LOE

The Problem I have with all of this negativity is that the players that all of the Negative Nancies are claiming we should have picked were either drafted before our pick came up, or fell to the third round.

RB wasn't a need either but... I agree with you though, HARPER??? I guess I'll stay tuned to see the next RB and Saftey the Saints are picking next.

As for Reggie on the Saints, it's a horrifying thought. Assuming NO opts to hold on to the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner and stays in the SuperDome, you now have the fastest human alive on the fastest surface around. Scary thought.
Just pulled this from some draft pick analysis. Just a positive thought for people to think about.

Also, I like the Reggie pick, and I really like the Faine pick up. And to go on what LOE is saying, Harper seems like a good player, but like a good player who should be taken in the 3rd or 4th round. Just bad timing. And a bad position selection.

Well, I'm not gonna knock a draft class until the draft is finished. Was the 2nd round pick surprising YES, was it a reach, probably, but I like the moves the FO has been makin and I feel they have a plan and know what they are doing. I'm not going to bash the kid until we've seen him play. He may turn out to be a quality starter and we are raving about him for years to come and calling that a genius pick., or it could be a bust. Time will tell. I am excited to see who is added to the fold tomorrow and am SUper excited for the season to start. The falcons may have a DVD offense, but the saints now have a B2B backfield.

Forget the past, The Future is NOW! Time to Shine!

O by the way, thanks a lot LOE, my nightmares finally stopped about a week ago, and now you come back. My eyes started bleeding when I saw your avatar.
