Re: Gregg Williams suggests the Saints want to injure Manning
I think if a quarterback enters a game, he is a player just like the other ten on the field. If he gets injured, that is part of the game. However targeting a particular player with the intentions of injuring him enough to take him out of the game, or maybe ending his career, I think, is poor sportsmanship. Don't get me wrong, a clean hit is a clean hit. If you can get to the quarterback, take him down as quickly as possible to keep him from making plays. If it happens to be Payton Manning then so be it. Personally, I think Greg Williams is playing a psycological game with Peyton Manning and the Colts' offensive line. I think Williams is just putting a little doubt in Manning's head, enough doubt that maybe he will hurry his passes and throw interceptions. However I think it may backfire. The refs are already going to be on Mannings side, this just gives them more ammunition. I feel this comment will not effect Manning in the least and will only draw more attention to the hits put on Manning and cause more personal foul penalties against the Saints. I think comments like that should be kept to yourself.

I agree Hulka. What the Saints D does, and when they do it, and how they get it done should be planned in private, then it should be for fans to watch and celebrate; not for the public and the media to spin, take out of context, and used to ruffle feathers and elevate a news story.

Re: Gregg Williams suggests the Saints want to injure Manning
the defence will do its thing like the nfc champ. game. but now its time for the big "O " to lay the wood big time. drew needs to put together a 400 plus 5 td game for the ages. this is the biggest game in his life. there can't be no rust in the sling, throw the dam ball like everyone knows he can chunk it. then marcus colston needs to catch the ball like we know he can. coach payton needs to call a game like we know he can. then we drink beer into the morning hours after.

Yeah, I don't see the need for the bulletin board material. It almost ALWAYS gets you in trouble. (Ask the Vikings

Re: Gregg Williams suggests the Saints want to injure Manning
I don't see this as bulletin board material. If you have a chance of getting to the quarterback, not that anyone's trying to knock anyone out the game, but you want to make sure you get a nice solid hit to rattle them. I'm pretty if Freeney or Mathis gets a chance to give Brees a shot, I'm 100% positive they're not going to let that opportunity go to waste... which is the same thing we'll be doing Peyton... hopefully.

"As Lou Holtz used to say, 'It's our job to score points and it's our job to stop them from hitting our QB '" Childress said.

Re: Gregg Williams suggests the Saints want to injure Manning
Man everyone is talking Manning Manning Manning....
I think the Colts defense is the real key to this game. Does anyone remember the LAST damn time we played the Colts? we lost 41 - 10 ok, 41 is tough to compete with, but we scored 10. TEN one zero! I have seen teams only give up 15, 17 or 20 points to the Colts and still lose. I say let Manning score like he does, and we score more. Thats the key |

Re: Gregg Williams suggests the Saints want to injure Manning
What happened in the past has no bearing on this game. Nice info, but of no real importance.
What is important is can they stop us from putting Manning's pants on the ground. It seems fairly clear both teams can score on anyone. Defense wins championships. Our D is better than the Dolts. |
