Besides with Bunkley and Hicks I think we are fine at NT. IMO I think the biggest need now is a ILB to play next to Loften, I just hope they're not set on Hawthorne being that guy.

Bunkley is a bit undersized to be a 3-4 NT, but he did it in 2011 in Denver when they still ran a 3-4, and I seem to remember reading that he did well in that role there.

Still, bringing in a cheap FA like Knighton from JAX could solve that NT problem and provide nice depth for rotation, and allow the Saints to focus the draft on more coveted positions like DE, OLB, CB/S, and OT.

Why don't you believe Hawthorne could do the job at ILB next to Lofton, he is a natural MLB and a solid tackler - naturally neither one of them excel in coverage, but they've both had multi-interception years in the past.

Thats exactly why, neither of them excel in coverage. I'd love to see a ILB who can cover playing next to Loften. If neither ILB can cover TE's are still gonna eat us alive.

Well then let them have those intermediate routes, but punish them with hard hits after the catch - in time they'll become timid and start dropping those balls.

come on bunkley got pushed all over the field by double teams all year long. i would love to see if Hicks can do a bit of time at DE in a 34

a 34 defense lives and dies with the NT.

Former Eagle Bunkley is elite in Broncos' 3-4 'D'

He excelled in Denver as a 3-4 NT.

I think we can put this to rest now.

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

So here's my question....since we're going 3-4 and focus probably will be NT best example of the prototypical NT you want to have is Haloti Ngata. Out of the guys on the board for the draft....which one is, or potentially is, the closest to a Ngata type talent? Just trying to get some opinions cuz I dodn't watch that much College football last year.
