Re: 2014 Free Agent List
who has had their pay day and now would want to end it all with a ring? thats the type of options we have due to the cap.
Maurice Jones-Drew has always jumped out at me and how would you reshuffle to get him in the mix? i think he might do min salary and would welcome the rotation and his skill set fit perfect with the saints. just throwing it out there |

I think the best we can hope for in free-agency is to maintain our current talent level, which was approximately one play away from the NFC Championship game. We'll shuffle the talent level at some positions, add a few guys who were hurt last year, but I doubt we sign a Keenan Lewis type impact player. Robinson will help at CB Butler will help at OLB Morgan will help at WR and we need some 2nd/3rd year players to step it up a bit Reddick Toon Tanner Hill Lelito (to perhaps replace DLP?) Johnson (to perhaps replace Collins?) Harris (to perhaps replace Strief) Foster Dawson Rufus White Sweeting |
Re: Free agents 2014
Considering Morgans track record for maintaining health, I am not putting any eggs in that basket.
3 seasons 11 games 10 receptions. Ivory at least played in 24 games in 3 years. |

I'm half expecting a Sproles trade. He's highest cap hit and I think he'd have the most value on the market. PT has always been under rated. Ingram is still under his rookie contract and cheap and I don't think he's had enough good games to have shaken off his reputation yet, so not as much value on the market. But who knows. If a team approaches the Saints with a good offer on any of them they'll probably be gone. |

i do not think this team is ready to lose PT just yet. i do not see a third down back on this team to replace him. PT and sproils work as a team against defnses take one part away and that will kill other player

Re: Free agents 2014
Personally i think our offense needs to spend more money on the O-line rather than WRs and TEs. I don't think we need Jimmy back; bringing him back may hurt the team more than it helps. Lets remember we have had the #1 offense for many years before Jimmy was with us. We (the team) should focus on keeping Drew upright and getting the running game going strong. Those two factors only happen when you have a solid line.
Flame away. |
Re: Free agents 2014
No flames here. I would love the O-line to be road graders, also agree about the run game. I do think that we need another WR to replace Meachum. The way I look at Meachum going to San Diego and getting cut after signing a big contract tells me there are better WR's out there, I think Moore should be replaced also but Stills in my opinion can play the slot better. If Graham does get a contract( a top dollar) we are defeating the purpose of building. We won before he was here we can win with him gone+ two 1st round picks with the right team we could build one he!! of an O.
|
Re: Free agents 2014
The only teams that I could see giving up two first rounders for Jimmy Graham would be Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Miami - and I'd love to move up in this draft and forego extending any further cap ramifications into the future...
We just can't be this close against the cap every season; we'll be stuck in mediocrity... |
Re: Free agents 2014
Going through an overview of the roster, with free agency and the draft coming up, the following are worth note:
- Can expect to begin turnover of some running backs due to age, costs. - The already thin offensive line is now without starting center, right tackle... - Big Decisions on Lance Moore's costs/benefit, re-signing of Robert Meachem, move on from Nick Toon... - Jimmy Graham has played this team into a predicament; should've spread the ball around more... - Must maintain effective depth on the defensive line; will we be up against the cap with a Cam Jordan decision next year... - Very thin again at Linebacker with little cap room - Thin at Safety, but why re-sign two safeties (Harper, Jenkins) to starter salaries when the two best safeties are Vaccaro and Bush?!? - Struck Gold at Cornerback; does Patrick Robinson have it in him with his last season under contract to supplant Greer? - Is Shayne Graham the solution, for now?!? There's not really a FA CB I like other than the kid from Tennessee; I like our guys better - Saints did an awesome sell on Keenan Lewis, already a Saints Favorite... He might ask too much, but OLB Jason Worilds could flourish in our system - but, we've yet to see Victor Butler, already under contract... Alex Mack (Truck) is the guy that could re-establish this offensive line... Would love to also add DE Tyson Jackson, Free Agent KC... Then Hicks could rotate there and with John Jenkins, getting cap relief from possible Bunkley trade... |

Re: Free agents 2014
We need to get some of our own guys re-signed and make a couple of small moves.
A lot of people seem to want Strief gone, but look at the available free agents and tell me he's not better than almost all of them. He's worth the $3-3.5 million/year he'll get and will probably give us a bit of a hometown discount. I'm not as big on keeping DLP but if you let him go you'd better damn sure know your replacement is going to work out. Unless you can get Mack (unlikely) there's no point in looking for outside FA help at center. I could see us bringing in a WR, if Moore is cut and Meachem not re-signed there is a gaping hole there. Really like Emmanuel Sanders. Maybe a big 3-4 OLB although Haralson would probably be the best value. Doubt they look for corner/safety help but there are some good depth guys available (I really love Cassius Vaughn as a nickel/dime guy). I think my ideal (but realistic) offseason would look something l like this: QB - Brees, Griffin RB - Ingram, Robinson, Sproles, rookie (Hill? Seastrunk?) FB - Collins WR - Colston, Stills, Toon, Emmanuel Sanders TE - Graham, Watson, Hill OL - Armstead, Grubbs, Lelito, Evans, Strief (Harris, Jones, rookie) DL - Jordan, Hicks, Bunkley, Jenkins, Foster, Walker, rookie OLB - Galette, Butler, Haralson, Rufus ILB - Lofton, Hawthorne, Humber, Reddick CB - Lewis, Robinson, White, Sweeting, Cassius Vaughn S - Vaccaro, Bush, Jenkins, rookie |
Re: Free agents 2014
i like that list.. wouldn't mind seeing some weapons on there. Perhaps Danario Alexander or Andre Roberts
