Re: Free agents 2014
Thanks. I wasn't sure where to find this. I mostly agree with the guys you want to keep.
|
Re: Free agents 2014
I like Strief at the right price. Humber is a versatile, good role player. I would lowball Bush, Morgan, Collins and Harris and see what happens. Other than that, the rest can go. Continue with the youth movement and hope Ryan doesn't get a Head Coach opportunity.

Re: Free agents 2014
I agree with Danno on them options.Parys has been a solid player and would be excellent cheap depth with Butler back next year.
I like R.Bush too him and Vaccaro are a decent pairing and it will interesting to see what happens with Jenkins and Harper. Id like a new top end centre if iys possible and a young RT to learn under Strief for a season. |

Re: Free agents 2014
Jimmy Graham will be back, you can guarantee it, although a franchise tag will be placed on him this off season and bigger contract next.
Graham played terribly the second half of the season upon his return for injury post Pats game. His blocking ability is a joke, and although he towers over opponents he can be disrupted by aggressive cornerbacks. What Graham needs is coaching, offseason coaching at that. But I found Shockey to be as affective when called upon, with more sure hands, than Graham proved down the stretch from mid-season to the end. I'd rather skip the overpaid salary and get an effective TE than over paying guys who under-perform. As for the rest of the WR corp, I'd rather part ways with most and bring in young talent to fight for the job. The drops this season were a joke, worst I've seen. It would be acceptable if some of these guys were at league minimum, but some of our WR are getting paid BIG dollars to be hurt, on the bench, and when they return, they simply do not earn their salary. |
Re: Free agents 2014
Rafael bush should definitely be a priority player for us to bring back and he should be starting aswell
Seattles WR's were downright scared of him coming across the middle, golden tate even flinched when a pass landed short because he knew Bush was there |
Re: Free agents 2014
yep all pegged it well

He is all that Since Talib got away with malling him every play other teams do the same thing. He is worth the money and Drew better open his own purse strings. Graham is a key part of the lifeblood of this team, is young, draws away defender attention and we need to reward him for his exceptional play |

Re: Free agents 2014
You are spending plenty of cap to sign them, im wondering were its coming from.
Its easy to say restructure Brees but he isnt going to loose the money and all we will do is push cap issues further down the line.At some point you need to take the hit. |
Re: Free agents 2014

Strief - May have been rated high, but his awful movement, feet limits what we can do on that side and makes the offense predictable; way too slow to run screens on the right side... De La Puente - there aren't alot of Centers laying around and reworking something as "chemistry sensitive" as the offensive line can be tricky, but status quo is unacceptable and for the money spent on the offensive line, changes are 'a comin'... Graham - Franchise Tag, Non-Exclusive; has been my favorite Saint, but became disappointed with his inability to adjust his game to physical corners getting non-calls vs him; not obsessed with the poor blocking with a guy with his numbers, but he's pretty pathetic in that department; Colston actually blocks better; two number ones are intriguing, but have we got past our problems with first round picks?!? Meachem - Even though as a first rounder he's a bust, to get him for that money as a No. 4 WR - that's a no brainer and makes the WR corps that the more effective... Haralson - I liked the addition, but as a +30yr old with a possible torn pec injury, just don't like that, stay with the youth movement... Herring - really liked his vet presence and contribution to the team; again, an aged player that we may need to get younger, faster players an opportunity... Humber - at one point, I thought he could supplant Lofton (who should some chops in the Saints last three games); asking price will be key to his staying/returning to the Saints... Bush - good thing for those that hung on their Bush jerseys when the other kid left town; this is your staring free safety in my book and I loved his bring the wood mentality in the playoff game; he's got some holes to his game, but MORE playing time will remedy that and he looked way better than the other two kids who've overstayed; must re-sign till we find the ball-hawk to complement Vaccaro... Collins - mixed bag; missed some key blocks down the stretch and dropped some key passes; sign the other FB on the practice squad if he gets signed for more than he is making now and take the compensatory pick, move on... Harris - intrigues me; sign him to a two year extension and see what develops... Knox - really liked this late edition; gotta bring him back and give him an opportunity to compete... Morgan - can he return to prior form AND improve, smh; Toon will make him expendable if he shows up to camp... Dawson - didn't like the signing, could have used the resources better; Ryan was blessed to not have his way with these "trusted" slow, aged veterans that needed to be left in Dallas... Graham - send him an invite; has kicked in cold weather; blame, cut McCown for his laces in hold; clutch kick in Philly was nice... |
Re: Free agents 2014
Can somebody explain how the compensatory picks are decided how what round they are in?.
I get its to do with number of FA lost compared to how many you sign snd we look like we will loose a fair few some fairly highly rated like Bushrod last year possibly two starting O linemen this year. |

Are we likely to get much this year?.

Re: Free agents 2014

But I thought we'd get some comps before and we got jack squat. If we lose 20 million in free-agency but we sign 20 million to replace them, we won't get picks. I think this year we'll lose more than we sign. |

Graham's contract and the moves to make room for same will really dictate what happens... |
Re: Free agents 2014
We could see a third-fourth rounder for Strief, should he depart...
Also could see a fourth rounder for De La Puente, should he depart... Have a feeling that Jenkins will leave from pride and sign for less elsewhere, though wouldn't cry about that; he'd probably bring a sixth, seventh round pick... Tell you one thing, though that has gotten little discussion - I'd seriously think about bringing in some punters; that BS last punt in the game @ Carolina and that WTF moment first punt in the Seattle playoff game absolutely stung... |

He's safe in 2014. The problem isn't his dead money, the problem is we paid a friggin Punter 3.3 million per season to start with. Re: Free agents 2014
Top 5 Free Agents I would like the Saints to sign. Any 2 of these would make me giggle.
1. Brian Orakpo- Butler comes back next year from his injury, but I would love to have a 3rd and long DL of Junior, Jordan, Orakpo, and Butler 2. Eric Winston/Roger Saffold- Whichever is cheaper, because I believe both will be cheaper than Strief 3. Hakeem Nicks- Injury slowed him down, but he would look good in our offense. 4. Alex Mack- Would be number 1 on my list, loved him coming out of college. But I think he will sign one of the richest center contracts, and we cant put all our money in the interior OL. 5. Walter Thurmond- Basically everyone but Greer has an issue for our CBs. |

Malcolm Jenkins S, $4,032,000 bye Jonathan Vilma ILB, $3,832,500 bye Zach Strief RT, $2,575,000 Maybe bye if we can find equal talent For less Brian De La Puente C, $2,023,000 Bye Jimmy Graham TE, $1,489,285 Must sign. Injury probably makes him more affordable than he would have been Parys Haralson OLB, $1,253,125 Try and keep Charles Brown LT, $880,000 resign for league minimum Tom Johnson DE, $775,000 Not sure on this one Robert Meachem, $715,000 Bye Kenyon Coleman, $620,000 I would still like to see him. Depends on his rehab Will Herring LB, $605,000 Maybe keep Ramon Humber ILB, $580,000 Keep Restricted free agents Joseph Morgan WR, $556,334 keep Rafael Bush S, $555,000 keep Jed Collins FB, $555,000 keep Luke McCown QB, $555,000 see what we can get for cheaper Bryce Harris RT, $480,000 try and keep Kyle Knox OLB, $405,000 don't know who this guy is Keyunta Dawson DE, $391,765 would like to see him play Trevin Wade CB, $169,412 not real familiar with him Shayne Graham K, $110,588 we need to find a younger option |

Eric Winston starting to look like he was overpaid all along - pass Roger Saffold could play both Tackles, but can we afford him?!? - bump Hakeem Nicks would not be affordable with what we're paying Colston; he's got a little Italian in him (Fragile); but a definite talent - pass Alex Mack would be an A+ addition to this team; question is could we afford him?!? After signing Jimmy Graham, tendering Rafael Bush, he would be the guy I'd love to sign; a center named Mack - make it happen Saints!!! Walter Thurmond's next suspension will be for a year - pass... |

Re: Free agents 2014
2014 Roster
QB - Brees, Griffin RB - Ingram, Robinson, Cadet FB - Johnson WR - Colston, Stills, Meachem, Toon TE - Graham, Hill OT - Armstead, Strief, Harris OG - Evans, Grubbs, Lelito C - DLP Griffin will win the #2 in camp. Thomas and Sproles are aging and expensive. With a true balanced attack, the need doesn't fit the cost. I expect the Saints to draft a WR early. Graham will most likely be franchised. Strief is very valuable because he can play either tackle and will be re-signed to a fair deal. DLP will re-sign a fair deal unless someone gets stupid and overpays for him. The Saints will draft an o-lineman or two late. DE - Jordan, Hicks, Foster, Galette NT - Jenkins, Bunkley LB - Lofton, Hawthorne, Butler, Reddick, Johnson CB - Lewis, White, Sweeting S - Vaccaro, Bush LS - Drescher P - Morstead K - The Saints first pick will come on the defensive side of the ball unless a top WR or T falls. The Saints need a playmaker at OLB, CB and S from the draft or free agency. They usually go cheap in free agency, so hopefully they'll get lucky in the draft. Due to the numbers, I can see Jenkins or Harper coming back for another year as a Saint. I lean towards Harper because I think Jenkins will get more money elsewhere. Overall, I've left 15 spots completely open for competition. Hopefully, Loomis and Co. will work some more magic and find some real talent on the cheap as they've done in the past. |
Re: Free agents 2014
I think Cadet is gone, Sproles retires, Thomas stays, and Andy Tanner gets moved up.
