Looks like he will be house hunting in Carolina this weekend.

Upon his release, he immediately becomes the #1 WR on the Carolina Panthers…or the Raiders will sign him for a 6 year, $54M deal

Well good luck to Jed. I liked him quite a bit as our FB, but decisions are decisions. Lorig will prove better for us with the offensive scheme we seem to be moving towards.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he was great, just not as bad as some make it out to be. Clearly we have much better options. But I could see Brown going somewhere and being a solid part of their line.

One more contract restructure and we resign DLP. You guys think DLP was subpar, well do you really want a rookie taking his spot?! A rookie may have a better physical skill set but I don't trust a rookie's mind to call out protections of Brees.

Well Chris, keep in mind that DLP unseated Olin Kreutz despite Kreutz' resume and reputation...

Colston started as a rookie wide receiver...

It really depends on the player, coaching, situation...

Analyzing Saints' salary-cap future - New Orleans Saints Blog - ESPN

As for Jordan, the Saints are expected to exercise a fifth-year option on the Pro Bowl defensive end this spring that will likely cost somewhere between $6 and $8.5 million for a one-year deal in 2015. If they exercise that option, Jordan can't become a free agent until 2016.

Big decisions: Linebackers Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne are both scheduled to receive big roster bonuses in 2015 that could force the Saints to make a decision on their status. Lofton has a roster bonus of $4.5 million due in 2015, plus another $2.5 million in salary and workout bonuses. If he continues at his current level, Lofton could well be worth a total of $7 million. But his contract was clearly designed for that to be a “prove it” clause. Hawthorne, likewise, is due a $2.5 million roster bonus in 2015, plus $2 million in salary.

We have 3.6m in cap space... Or essentially no cap space other than for the draft, practice squad, and to start the season.

2m - Sign drafted players
400k practice squad
Leaving 1.2m in case we have an injury to pick up a warm body.

I do not see that little bit of cap space as an opportunity.

With Grubs and Evans not restructured yet, those would be the keys to a long term deal for Graham. Even is grahams long term deal was mostly signing bonus and minimum salary it would hit us for 3m this year. leaving us short for the draft and PS.

New Orleans Saints Salary Cap - 2014 Breakdown

Since the Keenan Lewis difference between the two sites is 100k/ Cap Hit in 2014 they are either both correct or both wrong... Unless Loomis restructured a deal for 100k in cap space, which he didn't. Also since the Strief deal is 2m in cap hit for 2014 which is reflected on overthecap but not spotrac, I suspect they are both wrong as there is only a 1m delta between the two sites.

If you notice overthecap shows that Cap Space number is "Est."

All in all.... overthecap shows less money to work with so no, it isnt a prelude to a graham contract. That will come with the restructure of Grubs and Evans. 7m + 2.1m to Jimmy Graham is 9.1m. Leaving you with $0.00 to sign draft picks, practice squad, take the team to Sonic...:bng:

Understand the money has to come from somewhere, but I don't see BOTH Grubbs and Evans get their deals reworked...

And their currently showing the Non-Exclusive Tag money against Graham, so if Loomis has that much too work with this season, he may guarantee more money down the road to keep Graham at that cap number this season...

It's a case of take only when you need and not before.

With 2.6m in cap space going to a long term deal for Graham will consume that. Draft picks will require 4m and the restructure of one of them. The second will be a restructure to have some space available to start the season.

Now, if Jimmy signs the tag, one gets reworked and Loomis saves the other for a rainy day next year.

ok Mickey was my favorite punching bag in the front office for years but the guy has done a heck of a job in the past few years i have to believe he has this all mapped out to work.

from what i understand jimmy's tag figures are already included in our cap figures.

plus keep in mind Grubbs and Evens already restructured their contracts in 2013. increasing their signing bonuses again? that would be wild. pro-rate yet again over the remaining contract? trying see the business sense in that move. Right now i really can not even grasp the logic

i would start exploring other options

Observations

All this draft speculation of Saints needing a cornerback in the first yet when looking at the roster - we still need hard-hitting, playmaking linebackers!!!

Contracts as they are with Running Back, we'll only have Thomas, Robinson under contract after this season...

Damn thin on that offensive line...

Roll the dice and see if Patrick Robinson can blossom under Ryan...

Sure would like to bring Meachem back in the role, contract we had this past season...

Wonder if we can snag a good role player in the latter waves of Free Agency...

You know, what I really like Oak, is that the threads, whomever starts them, knows it's all Saints Fans thread...

Sometimes, with so many threads, some really great posts get missed when many of the same issues are related...

But most important, that Saints fans can commune and post their thoughts however unpolished or refined they are...

And that we can debate and discuss with enthusiasm and encouragement...

And when the Sun sets in the West for the day, fans leaves the forum informed, with their enthusiasm and self-esteem unabashed and intact...

Belichick doesn't trust his priest; and other than Brady, Kraft and he nickel and dime their players...

Still, he'd been a nice back to have in the stables though...
