C (2) Tim Lelito scares the hell out of me. last year he looked better at OG than OC and even then that was not saying much.

Jonathan Goodwin keeps popping to mind as the best stop gap measure if Brian de la Puente signs elsewhere or the saints fail in getting a starting OC in the draft

I was very happy that TJ signed with the Vikes, since as you know... that is my second favorite team in the NFL. I think that he'll probably fit in better there than he did here with RR., but who knows with all the changes their defensive front is going through this offseason and the overall changing of the guard..?

Thanks Hagan, I can hardly wait for the draft to see what moves the FO is going to make.

Patrick Robinson Cap $2,804,333 Dead $1,446,834 Savings $1,357,500

Mark Ingram Cap $2,359,875 Dead $973,500 Savings $1,386,375

Victor Butler Cap $1,875,000 Cap $375,000 Savings $1,500,000

Did anyone catch Sean Fazende and Fred Hickman on BensonTV (New Orleans Fox8) last night?!?

We may not have seen the last of DLP as the market hasn't developed the way he and his agent may have hoped...

Saints aren't going to break the bank, so he may have to go with the known rather than venture out and be gone after a year...

Only other FA we may sign is WR Sidney Rice if he's healthy and willing to take a "Prove It" contract...

All this draft speculation of Saints needing a cornerback in the first yet when looking at the roster - we still need hard-hitting, playmaking linebackers!!!

Contracts as they are with Running Back, we'll only have Thomas, Robinson under contract after this season...

Damn thin on that offensive line...

Roll the dice and see if Patrick Robinson can blossom under Ryan...

Sure would like to bring Meachem back in the role, contract we had this past season...

Wonder if we can snag a good role player in the latter waves of Free Agency...

Its a form of trading down to get more draft picks which can be used to trade up in the draft. With the Rookie wage ceiling in place it also guarantees there is not a lot of over spending to get new players.

The formula works for them although there is a bit of a gamble. There is no guarantee on how many, if any Compensatory picks they get, only the top 32 lost value FAs get the last team picks.

PFT is sort of recycling old articles from other news sources.
Compensatory picks have proved valuable to Packers

I think they're still high on Robinson stepping up this year. His numbers were horrible in the Spags year but so were everyone else's.

The Saints will have to do something with the interior of the o-line. I was hoping they could do something in FA and maybe they can still sign De La Puente back. If not they'll have to get someone in the draft.

And I hope they get an inside linebacker early in the draft.

Hell, I'm still hopeful Robinson steps up this season; he's a round one pick and has rare athletic gifts; we've seen glimpses...

For whatever reasons, he hasn't been able to traslate it to the field; absolute sin to have that talent and not be able to actuate it...

Got a feeling that DLP is coming to the painful recognition that he reached his apogee by being a Center for the Saints and will have to take what the market dictates...

Then again, nobody took Coach Payton serious when he said he wasn't worried about Center and we already had the guy we needed on staff when we cut Kreutz...

Robinson's numbers during the Spag year, were very strange. Don't get me wrong, they were horrible, he gave up a TON of yards and touchdowns. But the completion percentage was actually pretty good. I wonder if that was caused by scheme, or lack thereof. He may have been on an island when he should have been getting safety help.

I would feel more comfortable with DLP on the roster. If Lelito's the man then great, but if it doesn't work out, we know we have an above average fill in on the bench.

I really like the way the roster is shaping up.

A little bit of concern in terms of depth along the offensive line and the glaring issue at centre. The other issue is the receivers, outside of Colston and possibly Stills its question marks on both Morgan and Toon.Hopefully at least one of them can step up and fill a void.

Leaves the front office in a good position to be aggressive to go after the best players in the draft without having to worry about many holes to fill.

It's a very deep draft at wide receiver - so we'll find some help there...

Plus, we keep signing players like there's no salary cap - expect a Sidney Rice signing...

Payton is sleeping at night, so he must like what he has on the roster to play Centre...

Unlike last season when he uncharacteristically said he was having restless, sleepless nights over Left Tackle, Charles Brown...

Re: Free agents 2014

I visited this thread just to mention Chris Johnson. The market on running backs has just about dried up. Wonder if we could sneak in and get him on the cheap. Restructuring a few contracts or even cutting somebody like Bunkley would give you just enough to get him something in the 3.5 million/year range which might be enough.

lee909 04-08-2014 04:07 PM

Re: Free agents 2014

Cutting Bunkley would leave us short with NT and only saves $1.3ml.
It was cost at least half of that to bring in another NT

June 1 cut puts you free and clear, we would save $4.5 million. And we presumably wouldn't need another NT because Hicks can play inside to supplant Jenkins (as he did when Bunkley was hurt all those games last year).

Just a thought, I actually like Bunkley a lot and wouldn't particularly love to see him gone. But that kind of speed on offense is tempting. I'm not talking about Darren Sproles shifty quickness, but actual gamebreaking straight line speed. We don't have much of that on offense these days, except for maybe Stills. In our offense Chris Johnson would be a nightmare for defenses.

Austin has "hamstring injury" written all over him. With Rice at least you know he is on IR. With Austin you get 10+ game time decisions. No production whatsoever. If Earl Bennet would play for vet min than that's my guy (refused pay cut so highly unlikely).
