I hate to say this but the way we have drafted over the years if we stink it up this draft we're not going to be contenders any longer.

Re: 2015 draft??

Cutting Pierre Thomas proves to me that Payton wants a true 3rd down back. I think we all know that Payton is gonna get himself at least one toy to play with in this draft, right? I looked at the combine results and found a player who is very interesting and very close to home. I assume as least some of ya'll know who Ross Schuerman is. A white tailback from U of Lafayette. 6" 204 lbs, 4'6 40, 15 bench reps, finishing in the top 5 for RBs in every combine drill, a very well rounded athlete. Led his team in receiving as a junior and is also a good returner. Looks like Edelmam from the Pats. Tre Williams from A&M fits the description perfectly. He is a carbon copy of Darren Sproles right down to the short choppy steps. One of the quickest in the draft for sure. 5"7 195lbs 4.4 40. My guess is Saints take Tre Williams in the 2nd round and get their Darren Sproles clone and kick returner. Marcus Murphy-Mizzoo-a solid back who was a stud kick returner with 7 return TDs, has big hands and can catch the ball. disappointed with a 4.6 40 at the combine.

Re: 2015 draft??

Walters mock draft from WalterFootball.com has us selecting Shane Ray in the first and Benardrick McKinney in the second...

That would damn near fix the LB problem right there

Then has us selecting Ifo Ekpre-Olomu in the third...

That would fix the defense!

I wouldn't mind those picks at all, but I don't think McKinney falls out of the first round. With all other ILB/MLB prospects looking bad during the combine he will be the first to go, my bet is he lands between 20-30th overall.

Re: 2015 draft??

Has anyone taken a look at Eli Harold DE/OLB from Virginia? Could be a decent 2nd round LB if they go for another position in the first...

Eli Harold*, 3-4OLB, Virginia
Height: 6-3. Weight: 247.
Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
Projected Round (2015): 2-3.

3/7/15: Harold was very impressive in 2014. He totaled 54 tackles with 14.5 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, two passes batted, one interception and a forced fumble. The junior had strong showings against UCLA, Louisville and North Carolina. Harold is fast and athletic on the edge. He needs to add weight to remain in a 4-3 defense in the NFL. Harold worked out well at the Combine, but needs to get bigger.

8/23/14: Harold made a big impact as an edge rusher for Virginia in 2013. The first-year starter totaled 8.5 sacks with 15 tackles for a loss, 51 tackles, two forced fumbles and a pass broken up. His season was highlighted by a three-sack game against rival Virginia Tech.

Harold is a fast and athletic edge rusher, but probably will have to move to linebacker if he can't gain a significant amount of weight. As a freshman backup in 2012, Harold had two sacks.

Eli Harold won't be there in round two...

He'll likely fall starting around pick 20 in the first round...

He's a little behind in development to Vic Beasley...

But they're very similar in their freakish get off at the snap...

In fact, if Beasley, Scherff, Shelton are off the boards, I'd reach and select him at 13 before Ray, Gregory, Dupree...

About 2 months behind on the Eli Harold train Mitch. Im a big fan...

I posted this about Eli Harold 2 months ago in reply to JeanPierre.
You can find it on page 20 of this thread...

"Honestly though...one of my options id love to start day 2 with is
Eli Harold - Virginia

Jeanpierre i think you could really grow to love this pick. Follow me for a minute....

Been watching a good amount of tape on him & really liked what i was seeing. Im sitting there thinking "who does this guy remind me of" & then it clicks...Jerry Attaochu. Nearly identical builds as well.
Attaochu: 6'3 252lbs
Harold: 6'4 250lbs

shows alot of similar traits we saw from Attaochu coming out of Georgia Tech. Pass rusher & disruptive. More athletic than what we have in JR Rite now as well. Shows he can set the edge, but can stand to improve."

Since then Harold has had a great Combine & Pro day, so like JeanPierre said, no chance he gets to us in the 2nd. He'll probably be drafted somewhere in the 20 range of the 1st Round. Would be more than happy to trade back to select Harold & gain extra picks.

Re: 2015 draft??

This is huge when analyzing running backs for the draft...

2015 NFL Draft: Fumble rate among RB prospects - CBSSports.com

And why I wouldn't draft a RB in the first two rounds, maybe IU's Tevin Coleman in round three, though I'd take him if he's there in Round four...

heavy load carries? two 1000+ years and still

123.2 -- Jeremy Langford, Michigan State (8 3/4)

also impressive is
619.0 -- Malcolm Brown, Texas (10 1/4)

Re: 2015 draft??

Not to steal your thunder Ambassador Sarik, but SaintsFan1976 should share with you as well...

But it was also this Jon Ledyard scouting report that has given me pause and take notice, not to mention watching as much video of Harold that I can find...

2015 NFL Draft Scouting Report: DE Eli Harold - Defensive Ends - NFL News - Pro Football Spot - Forums

But what really has caused me to want the Saints to make necessary moves to get Vic Beasley and Stephone Anthony is not their respective combine performances, per se...

it's the preparation, dedication they demonstrated to be in position to perform as they did...

Being the Saints like to make a bold splash, send either Grubbs or Galette or both to exchange first round picks for a top five pick to ensure Beasley and possibly move up to get Anthony in the the second round...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
