We can afford a defense. We have more money tied up in defense than we do in offense if you exclude Brees. Loomis got us the money to build a very good defense. The scouting and coaching staff just made poor choices on who to spend that money on.
100%. Brees isn't the problem. He is performing. It's the wasted money on bad defensive choices like Gallete, Browner and Byrd. Re-structuring Brees lets him put more money in the bank immediately and extends that cap hit over 2-3 more years to make it respectable and allow us a rebuild. Anyone wanting to see Grayson right now and Brees traded is a crack pot in my opinion. This can be fixed with the right draft and some shrewd FA signings.
