Saints acquire DE/OLB Chris McCain from Dolphins for conditional 7th-rounder
We take a break from Drew Brees correctly slamming Communist Kaepernick's stance on the national anthem to discuss an insignificant trade the Saints have made. What page is this going to be in tomorrow's edition of the Times-Picayune in the wake of the Brees quotes? Z-716?

This trade may not matter at all, but it makes sense for both teams. Chris McCain is a former undrafted free agent from 2014 with just two career sacks. He saw very brief action last year despite Cameron Wake sustaining a season-ending injury. That shows how little regard the Dolphins had for him. They were probably going to cut him this weekend, so why not potentially get a seventh-round pick for him? As for the Saints, they need pass-rushing depth, so McCain might be able to clinch a roster spot.

Grade for Saints - B-
Grade for Dolphins - B

Good catch, Mitch...

That's exactly the kind of urgency we've not had in some time...

Still need some depth at WR and of course there's the elephant that's not in the room at Guard...

Speaking of guards, Remember OL Brandon Thomas, Clemson 6' 3", 310 lbs who had a stellar game against Jadveon Clowney and then tore his ACL in a workout for the Saints in that year's draft?

Brandon Thomas tore ACL in Saints workout | ProFootballTalk

Well, the 49ers traded him to the Lions for WR Jeremy Kerley yesterday...

What a strange move
Either the 49ers know he has a knee ossue long term or they are nots. Kerley isnt a bad receiver but you wouldn't change a promising guard for him. Shame as they may have been interested in some WR we have here

Please Loomis, claim this injured/waived player and hang on to him till the final 53 and put him on IR after...

I approve of this. It's a shame he got injured early on.

Yeah, no way Ozzie Newsome would let that guy (Bronson) get away if he has star potential.

meh...he's good, but there's some favoritism going on between the league and the Oz...

Oz and Ravens get a disproportionate number of compensatory picks vs other teams...

I agree with the picks
Its a scam i guve a 3rd comp, you select a LB so the next year you let a LB leave in FA getting you another pick

To be fair to Ozzy,he knows the game and plays it well. He and his team are good talent scouts though. Even his players that dont work out are normally serviceable. Im sure theres been a few byt not many straight out busts. Our front office has been living in tbe rep of one draft for a long time

Yeah i was suprised with that trade. Trading away Lee for a 7th rounder for the Panthers punter and a 4th.

Stupid decision. The Browns of all teams need a good punter to get better field position. Not impressed they sent Lee to the NFC South either

After watching the Pats this off season I hope the saints are watching their cuts closely.

WR Aaron Dobson solid upside
TE/HB AJ Derby if they are so stupid. The kid justs makes plays
DE Geneo Grissom core special team on all 4 units
DE Rufus Johnson proved to be a solid backup and special teams player
DT Anthony Johnson will they be so stupid? This tiger has proved he can play in the NFL
DT Markus Kuhn a Bill fav could be the boobie prize if they keep Johnson
LB/S Brandon King key special teamer
CB Jonathan Jones and Darryl Roberts both are solid PS prospects

Looks like Belichick and the Pats stole another high draft pick - this time for a 5th round pick!!!

Patriots now have the No. 6 and the No. 7 picks from the top of the 2013 NFL Draft!!!

Was that Rufus Johnson name I hear, the same player our D staff(Bill Johnson I might add) couldn't help develop?

That'd be the one

I do wonder in what organisation Vitt,McMahon and Johnson eoild still have jobs. They have hardly coached up one player between them. Not sure we have had a great LB since Vilma.

From Walter Football...

Sept. 2 Updates

http://walterfootball.com/images/fball/saintsb_logo.gifSaints re-sign C Max Unger (3 years, $21 million): B Grade

The Saints dealt Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks for Max Unger and a 2015 first-round pick. A year later, and it's evident who won the trade, though it's thanks in part to Graham's torn patellar tendon.

Unger, meanwhile, was solid but unspectacular last season. Given the issues the Saints have on their offensive line, it's nice that they'll be keeping a dependable player for several years.

I think this contract is about right. It may be on the slightly expensive side, given that Unger just turned 30 and could decline at any time, but the Saints should be safe. I feel as though a "B" grade is warranted.

I think we can put to rest whether or not we should have cut Evans considering even a team with an atrocious O-Line has let him go.

Wanna bet there's a ton of fans that want us to resign him, despite the fact that he graded out as our worst O-Lineman last year?
