The tweet below may seem insignificant, but it's not...

Stupar has shown some good plays in being able to cover in the passing game, not to mention he'll surely be a special teams ace.

But there is nothing more important than having a teammate and locker room presence that really loves the game of football...

It's very telling that Failclown fans really hated seeing him go and were gutted that he signed with us.

Two free agents I'd like to see the Saints bring in for workouts...

WR Brian Hartline; we're gonna need some size at WR besides Thomas, Coleman can't be trusted with a roster spot...

OG Louis Vasquez; message needs to be sent that the guard play we're getting is unacceptable and OGs can be replaced...

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency

We could always go to Canada and look for a guard, it's worked out pretty good the last few times (Del Breaux, Erik Harris, David Onyemata) in FA and the draft...

He might actually have some decent trade value at a position we can afford to deal.

As Bobby Hebert said, he's no Drew Brees but from all the starting QB's he's seen in the NFL, McCown would be about middle of the pack as an NFL starter.

I don't think we have the supporting cast right now to seriously compete for postseason if Brees went down, so McCown doesn't really do us much good other than fill in for a few games if Drew needs to sit.

I think its worth a gamble to trade McCown to either add some help along the O-line or a mid-round pick in next year's draft.

I wonder if McCown for Leary straight up is workable?

As long as the Mickster understands, we don't have to give up draft picks!

If anything, I'd find a way to package Byrd with a contract redo to minimize our cap hit...

Then you can let Bell get on the field and justify taking him with two draft picks...

No way the Cowboys trading for him. Prescott has looked good in preseason and will get the time to see if he is the long term answer

I still cant believe the money they gave him. Watson showed that Brees can work with any above average TE. We paid a man that loves dropping the ball

Dak has looked good thus far however but the Cows have no backup and trust me, rookie QB's will eventually come down to earth once NFL coaches start game planning. Luke could do well with that stout line, a run game and a elite WR.

Agreed. Ben is a special man and he will always be a favorite of mine in or out of football. I was thrilled when we signed him and still remember the questioning of the move by several around here. If anyone can handle this adversity it is him.

Truly a good guy & I wish him a healthy, speedy return.

Why the heck haven't we tried to sign Louis Vasquez? Is there some injury issue I don't know about?

From what I've read the knee is healthy however Vasquez has been rather disappointing in zone blocking scheme (what Payton runs).

Kind of wished we had taken a flyer on Matt Slauson after the Bears cut him. A proven vet and QUALITY pass blocker. Meanwhile we have two back up guards and a tackle who never played guard in college. If you look at JP's depth chart, there are a few UDFA that some here thought would be our savings grace. At this level of football, potential disaster waiting to happen.

I don't understand this either. He's been mentioned on this board for months. Even if he came in as a 1 year stop-gap he would be an upgrade.
There really has been no news on him anywhere

I think they were getting away from the zone blocking scheme this year with the new line coach...(Dan Roushar)

The VIKINGS are over stocked @ the OL. Keep an eye on their cuts.
NY (Giants) are pretty weak upfront so there will be competition for any average to good lineman that becomes available.

We signed Sean Hickey last year as an undrafted FA so the familiarity is there... But if he was worth keeping we would have.

Trade a DB (Swann) or RB (Ingram or Spiller) or QB (McCown) for G/T Matt Tobin.

lee909 08-28-2016 01:41 PM

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency

I really like Ingram but was suprised they gsve him a relatively big deal, especially when you consider they felt the need to give Spiller a similar deal a year later. Too much money wraped uo in a pair of RBs that cant pkay 16 games.

Id rather spend a 3/4th rounder on a RB run them into the ground for 4 years and draft another.

Or a seventh rounder, this time next year, Lasco may just be better than Ingram...

Goes to my thinking, you don't spend first, second round picks on running backs...

Especially when you have holes in your defense and on your offensive line...

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency

Agreed
A good oline will make even a average RB look good. Look at McFadden. If the pieces are there id take a great RB in the first myself but only if you habe few holes to fill and they are the best player on the board
