Re: Underwhelmed

I am not sold on Rankins, I like the two second rounders, no idea why we needed to give up next years 5th for this guy. Clearly hope I am way wrong and everyone is a stud, but our recent draft history, specifically having 3 players left on the roster from the '11,'12, and '14 draft is downright scary.

Although none of us may be in the know, the recent draft history points to the fact that the people in the draft room aren't too much in the know them damn selves.

Recent history is only 2015 and that one looked good. Payton cleaned house on the major players in scouting and brought in Ireland for last year. These are not the same people in the draft room beyond Payton and Loomis and Loomis is a pencil pusher.

That's a false narrative and very few people on this board or anywhere else will agree that the only recent draft history is last year. Again, '11,'12,'14 there are 3 people left on our team, hence the back to back 7-9 seasons.

That is not a false narrative because after the 2014-15 season the Saints fired college scouting director Rick Reiprish and several of his staff. This followed several years of very poor drafting. Reiprish was replaced by Jeff Ireland and several new fresh faces in the department. 2015 was the first and ONLY draft dependent upon this new group and it was arguably the best since 2006. Last year is truly the only relevant draft history.

And also this draft is the 1st with Dennis Allen as DC. We fired Reprish because his drafts sucked.

If 2015 and 2016 are any indication, I think we have the right guys calling the shots now. Or at least they're a heck of a lot better than 2007 thru 2014.

I could care less, the only way that would be a relevant argument is if we had an entirely new coaching staff and GM. We don't so no it is not applicable. That is a failed attempt to hide the mistakes the Saints have made in drafts between 2011-2014. Last year is too early to tell as is this year.

Too bad he didn't clean house on positional coaches

Offnsive line hasn't been there since Aaron Kromer left

Re: Underwhelmed

This is what Loomis had to say on why whathisname was drafted really early...

Can you talk about what you liked so much about David Onyemata?

“That is an interesting story. Obviously, you guys heard from him and got to know about the story now from his coach. We were really intrigued with his talent. We recognized that he wasn’t playing in an SEC school obviously, so there are some questions about the level of competition. Man, we like the traits and the talent. We liked the guy, the makeup of the player and we went aggressively to go get him. We had some information and I am pretty confident that he wouldn’t have been available to us if we would have stayed right where we were at. We’re excited to have him and I would say that we see some versatility in this player. We’re expecting some early contribution. This isn’t a guy that is just going to sit and not be productive for us. I think we expect some early contributions from him.”
