Re: Vitt, Johnson, McMahon, Kwan, Willis FIRED

The selection of Stephone Anthony was the best thing that could have happen to address the long-standing problem of linebacker coaching during Payton's tenure...

I caught hell when I first broached Vitt being a handicap on this site three plus years ago...

But when Anthony was selected and regressed in his second year and Allen had to take over midseason, the events had to transpire the way they did...

Vitt, an older guy, self-professed old-school guy has never worked well with rookies - and that goes against what Payton has been when he's been successful - taking what you have, coaching and scheming to strengths and maximizing potential...

I've been asking, challenging those that disagreed to name a linebacker Vitt has developed and got the general response that we hadn't committed a first or second round talent for him...

Despite having multiple picks which Vitt (and now Joey Jr.) undoubtedly had input into their draft selection and didn't even develop a solid player from, Vitt finally had exhausted his excuses with a pick like Anthony who had such high anticipation and expectations and a promising rookie year...

Now it's on Payton/Loomis and Dennis Allen to staff assistants who'll get the best of the deepest defensive front seven personnel group we've had in Payton's tenure...

That comment Brees made was my first thought when the good ole boys finally got their a$$ fired. Or maybe, just maybe Payton read my post finally. If so he needs to keep reading them.

This to me shows Payton is on the hot seat

If next season resembles the last 3 seasons in any way, e.g 0-4 start and missing the playoffs, then I don't think Payton makes it to the end of the season.

He might make it to the end of the season but he won't make it past, you're definitely right. All the people talking about how his record doesn't matter and he is never going anywhere, BS. These firings were not because SP had an Epiphany, his ass is on the hot seat.I think he probably also recognizes they need some new young energy flowing into things.

I agree with you, he is on the hot seat.

He bought himself some time for sure. How much? I truely believe it will be on how his boy Allen's D performs. If the D loses games like they have I think him and Allen will be packing bags and moving on.

Totally disagree. Benson and Loomis both feel Payton can walk on water. This was a difficult decision that Payton made all on his own. He isn't stupid. He can see the same thing we all could see. He desperately wants the Saints to be a factor again and he knows that Vitt, McMahon and Johnson were all failing at making that happen. The ownership/management/HC relationship in New Orleans is unique. You cannot make assumptions based upon what other franchises would do. Sean brought a championship to the Bensons and they will never forget that fact. He has a job with the Saints for as long as he wishes.

It was Payton that was clearly not happy with the results. He didn't need anyone to tell him the Saints need to get better. Anyone who thinks that isn't the case, bull****.

The are losing their patience with Low Energy. He either starts winning or his ass is next. The SB was a nice treat, nearly a decade ago. LMAO!
