In a defensive and more specifically cornerback loaded draft, the price does seem a little steep.

The use of that #32 pick as collateral would also probably draw the ire of Goodell but hey... Us and the Pats are Gate-bro's so bring it on!

I think so as well... giving them our 2nd round pick for Butler I can live with. It also comes down to the contract they can ink him to.

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

If it is just the 32nd, that works for me. There a quite a few CBs taken in the first round every year but very few are as good as Butler.

AM I wrong to think that Saints and Butler would need to be in very similar ball parks and if so we would work out an arrangement with Pats and then he signs his tender and done deal? Am I wrong to believe that us and Pats already talked about this and have a good idea what to expect as compensation and now it is about his deal?

I said passing game, and you list a bunch WRs who go from mediocre to decent within the conference the Pats play in... I guess Butler is sooo good he was covering both WRs every game lol..

... anyway ...

So, QBs in the AFC East:
Tyrod Taylor, ranked 25th last season.
Ryan Tannehill, ranked 26th last season.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, ranked 28th last season, who BTW was benched...

Then you have your AFC East WRs ( rec-yds-tds for the season):
Marshall: 59-788-3
Landry: 94-1136-4
Stills: 42-786-9
Decker: 9-194-2
Watkins: 28-430-2
Woods: 51-613-1
Goodwin: 29-431-3

All-Pro's, they are not. Also, while Marshall and Decker are tall (both listed at 6'3") the rest are between 6'1" and 5'9"

As for Brown ( I assume you meant Antonio Brown), first game 7 for 107, 2nd game 7 for 77.

As for Cooks and Snead, the Saints did not play the Patriots this year.

Next time you reply to me in an attempt to disprove my point, do your homework.

ROOKIE cornerbacks. We are in a win now mode. It could take them two years to handle NFL standards.

Um, yeah. That what I've been saying for the past two days. ;)

It all comes down to the price in the end as usual

I feel ya, but we've been in that mode for three years and all the carefree (or careless) attitude towards rookies and draft picks has yielded is 7-9 and annual salary cap crunches till this year...

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

Do y'all realize we could've signed Gilmore or Bouye and still have kept Cooks?!?

hagan714 03-17-2017 05:35 AM

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

32? nope would not do it.

big selling point for cook is two year of cheap contract money

Butler is 1 year and even then he will be demanding a big contract.

trade and extension involving pick 32 is a sign of desperation. If they trade pick #32 expect a contract that will shock us like Byrd, Browner and Fleener

NFL.com/Wiki/SB Nations/Patriots.com both have him at 5'11
Draft Scout has him 5'10

Malcolm Butler*|*West Alabama,*CB*:*2014 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

Yeah team rosters like those in high school always build players up. that is why weigh ins during the draft season are so important,

Hey JP, we actually tried a bunch of stop gap signings, and one was fairly expensive lesson. Greer going down like he did and retiring was really devastating. We tried Champ but those tires had fallen off and then we tried Browner and that didn't work either. We have drafted decent at corner if you consider Swann's first season and Williams' potential. Our problem has been their health. We have 1.5 games in two years from Williams. Swann had those 8 or so games where he really looked like he had some potential and then the concussions. I am very scared signing Butler for a really lucrative contract just because of our history. I hope our current D coaches know what they see etc

Hag has him at 5'9 and 1/2. 5'10 on scouts. Pats 5'11 along with 3 others. Let me do the math.

I have him at 5'10 and 58/100? Am I close?

Even if it doesn't happen, then we have 2 first round picks in a loaded defensive draft.

Exactly, and Fabian Moreau will be sitting right there at No. 32 for us...

Well isn't he taller than the WR most people were upset with being traded?

I worry about another large strikeout on a big contract . I am with you.

jeanpierre 03-28-2017 07:58 AM

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

Just don't get spending Top 10 money on a cornerback that's not even going to be covering the No. 1's in our division...

Malcolm is a fine player; really appreciate the odds he's overcome; but we've got our No. 1 CB in Del Breaux, who will have to be extended in a couple of years...

You've got CBs who'd be first round picks in other years that could fall as far as the third round...
