If, and I do mean IF, we do make a deal I would be surprised if it was before the draft. As someone mentioned earlier, it may come down to whether what is sitting there at #32 is a better deal than Butler.

The only concern I see with Butler is that he has struggled against bigger receivers, which the NFC South is full of

Valid concern... That's why we really need PJ Williams with his 41" vertical to stay healthy for once. Breaux can handle them too. It would be so nice to have a great group of CB's that we could game plan with instead of just throwing guys to the sharks and being exploited.

technically we have not had a CB play over 10 games that could handle a big WR. Once added he would instantly be our best DB. No doubt about it. Will a rookie do that? Maybe in a couple of years. I want to win now.

First of all, who said the saints were even looking at CB with that pick. This organization does not draft for needs!

Either way Payton and Brees will go down as someone who could never be cut throat. Cooks has more value than Butler.

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

What I find so funny is how after the season ends now everyone wants to throw our corners under the bus outside Breaux. Like the pass rush wasn't the issue now it's the corners. What is Butler gonna do that what we had didn't when there is no pressure?

Fuller, Rhodes, Peters were NFL ready CBs btw.

This trade is going to happen, hopefully we give up #42 . I would try and keep #32. I would rather trade #42 and #39 which adds up to the same point value on the trade chart . Keeping 32 gives us more potential for trading for extra picks

Bingo we have a winner

Pick 32 has a long history of being a prime trade pick. So you are actually giving up more than one pick, Then paying top dollar for CB that is not a shut down CB. This deal can turn to another case of Byrd turds real quick with a safety to help out over the top. That is the main coverage package the pats run.

In the long run this deal could cost us more than the Pats deal for Stephon Gilmore.

Trust me the pats will make fools out of us when all is said an done.

People... we never owned pick #32. It isn't ours to wheel and deal with. It was always part of the Cooks/Butler trade.

Out of what, 60 CB's drafted? That is the point.

When it was first talked about before the Cooks trade happened, the idea was Butler and a first for Cooks and a pick. What happened was the saints caved, and just took a first rounder and no Butler.

No, Butler wasn't under contract so they couldn't include him in that trade. They used #32 as collateral for when they could deal Butler. Of course I don't know that for certain but we'll see.

They do what the board dictates with who is left on their draft board(want list).

Sometimes not successfully, but hindsight is always 20/20

That's what I'm afraid of. They're slimy. And they always come out on top.

That's why I am hoping we don't give up either or our firsts for Butler... And if the Pats will not take anything else than good riddance

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

So the Pats gain Cooks,Gilmour and a 4th rounder.

We get Butler and a comp third but loose a early 4th and Cooks

We could have tried for Gilmour or Bouye and gained a 1st, comp 3 for Cooks and a 4.

Should have seriously gone after a FA CB imo

Pats to sign McCourty and he is a pro bowler this year

How do you know the Saints didn't speak with Gilmore's agent? He may have been priced out of our range. All Butler was guaranteed from the Patriots was his $3.9 million tender. All the Saints needed to do was make a deal sweeter than that. But, we'll see what the numbers are if the deal truly has been made.

All we had to do was sweeten that deal?

That a one year deal before he hits FA. He has no choice in that, its the tender deal offered by the NFL. If he was likely to sign for 10ml he would likely habe been kept long term by NE. We will see what the numbers are but id be shocked if its avg under 12ml a year

Guido you raise a valid question, but I think if the Saints had made a real effort to pursue Gilmore, word would have leaked as it did with the other signings...

If all goes through as speculated, we will have traded a first and third round pick to move up in the 2014 draft from 27 to 20, and select Brandin Cooks...

Developed, featured Brandin Cooks as a NFL Top 10 (conservatively, I'd argue Top 5) wide receiver, traded Cooks for...

An Undrafted, Rookie Free Agent Corner back rated top 10/5 who rarely covers taller X receivers (usually the opponents No. 1 WR) and pay him Top 8 money...

A CB who, despite making some of the biggest plays in his franchise's history, was declined a lucrative extension, and instead passed over by his rookie franchise who decidedsigning a more physical, taller corner back from a division opponent as his success is viewed by many as an extension of the defensive system he was attached...

And throw in moving an early fourth round pick into a late third round pick, essentially moving up 15 spots to Pick No. 103 from No. 118, which will be forfeited by Commissioner as penalty against the Pats...

We will need to wait till it plays out as the devil is in the details, but if it plays out this way, it's just more Payton/Loomis head scratching, self-handicapping personnel moves...

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

I'm ok with getting Butler. But I'm not happy about the #32 pick. If he gets even close to the money Gilmore got from the Pats, he better make an instantaneous impact.

And if we're giving up the #32, we better not be giving them any more picks!!!

How can i put his idea mildly
We give 32 and 42 for 96 and Butler

Go f@×* yourself

Essentially
Cooks,42,118

For
Butler,96,103

If SP gives them anything more than one pick, he needs to be sacked on the spot.

Not thrilled about Butler as a player in all fairness, I'd rather keep all picks and address everything in the draft.

Rather trade 32 for more picks.

Stephone Anthony part of the deal?

two goats and a pig?

Why? Most of the time we suck at drafting. We'll draft some 3rd round prospect at 32, some guy who's knee is held together with duct tape in the 2nd round, and we'll trade up in the later rounds for a back-up.
