I don't see much potential at all for that happening. I'm expecting Davenport to be so dynamic that they can't keep him off the field.

Sure there is. As much as we believe in his potential it is realistic to assume Davenport may not be ready for NFL starter level competition by week 1. But Training camp and preseason have a way of revealing it so we’ll see how it unfolds. I’m pulling for him as well.

In YOUR opinion the front office over-reached on Davenport. But how can you even say "unnecessarily"? If they had decided as a team that Davenport was who they wanted to come away with at the top of the draft how do you propose they could have accomplished this in some other manner? It was absolutely necessary to trade up to grab him. He was most likely NOT going to be there at #27. I have no doubt whatsoever that they approached several teams with several offers to be able to make the "necessary" move. When it came down to it the ONLY move possible HAD to include the first from next year.

Now I can somehow see how you would have been bent out of shape if that 2019 first was expected to be near the top of the draft, but they had to have been very confident that it would, in fact, be very near the bottom. Have you considered that you may value draft picks more valuable than do others in the game? You must admit that the draft is a special time for you. Is there the tiniest bit of resentment that you will not be able to factor in a first rounder in your research for next off-season? Just stop and think about that for a second and be totally honest.

If Davenport is the piece needed to solidify and make the defensive line a force to be reckoned with then ANY price paid is worth it. Once again, I bring up the old wise saying that a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. It fits this situation perfectly. Few people can argue that another quality edge rusher was the most important need coming into this season. There was not one available at the right price in free agency. Many would argue that there were only two elite ones available in the entire draft. There is no guarantee that the 27th pick this season and the ??? pick next season wouldn't turn out to be underachievers, if not total busts. Right?

I'll never piss on a guys parade but Taysom needs to really show well at camp. Out running defenders was nice at BYU but the NFL is a totally different animal.

First question I have for Hill is if he can consistently throw accurate passes (see Garrett Grayson) in the pocket? How is his throwing mechanics? Running QB's always scare me.

Training camp awaits .

I could see your point at almost any other position, but edge rushers have one main job and that is to get to the QB. Raw physical ability can trump technique at this position. I would be shocked if Davenport wasn't a major part of the defensive front come week one, if not much, much sooner. Totally shocked.

Let's not be coy - Payton makes the final roster decisions; they're may be input, requests, but there is no decision as a team as Payton has all the juice...

The pass rush is Cam Jordan with Okafor a solid complement; the interior (Onyemata, Davison, Rankins) were fair at best in collapsing the pocket...

Of Note, Onyemata, Davison, Rankins is how they finished in their annual grades and production...

Don't get all this brouhaha about we must have an edge rusher opposite Cam; there's four spots to get pressure; Rams do it with Aaron Donald, a DT3...

At 27 in the draft, there were at least three DTs, another two DEs who would have been upgrades over everyone not named Cam Jordan...

There still were options there in the third round to gain yet another player for the defensive line, our most critical area of need after free agency...

Two first round picks is too much draft capital in one player not a franchise quarterback...

Payton repeatedly overspending draft capital (i.e. two picks to acquire one pick) is one of the single biggest reasons why there's only one Superbowl with Drew Brees...

You can buckle-in because this is likely a three year argument and won't end soon unless Davenport has a rookie season like Bubba Baker, or Jevon Kearse...

Is a Superbowl worth two first round picks, YES.

And Ultimately, the crux of this argument will be thus - Will Marcus Davenport be the difference and the single biggest reason for the Saints winning the Superbowl?

Since 2006, it's real simple, Sean Payton in the field - Good; Sean Payton in the draft room - Bad...

And for the record, I really want to be wrong on this and Davenport has a Bubba Baker rookie season to justify two first round picks...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
