I’m uncertain if P-Rob will be the same coming back from his injury at his age.

Maybe not right away, but I like the depth, experience and PJ was really balling at the end of the run, so he buys time for P-Rob to get stronger...

Kind of my thoughts too.

Hopefully rehab went well and PRob can come close to earlier form.

Edit - then there is Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. I think he will make a nice transition from college to the pros sooner rather than later.

He played with a herniated disc last season and had surgery in January. Probably can’t pass a physical right now or something.

Liked Colton Jumper last year, thought he showed enough to make the team, just needed a lil' more seasoning (snaps, opportunities)...

He made some rookie mistakes, but that kid out-efforted everyone that last couple pre-season games...

Tomasi was either out-of-shape or injured again for them to bring in a veteran like Williams...

Geneo Grissom is a bit of a head-scratcher, as he's not always been in shape nor always available - NE tried several times with him and finally cut their losses of the fmr third-round pick...

Corbin Kaufusi (UDFA 2019)

He's got crazy height (6'9). It'll be interesting to see what he can do at camp.

Fellow B&G member UtahSaint may have more insight. Didn't see a lot of BYU football in 2018.

I heard Pat Kirwan talking to a caller yesterday about the height of certain players. He said there is a point where height can begin to be a detriment as opposed to being a positive for certain players. Leverage becomes an issue, as well as maneuverability.

AG, are you forgetting Ed "Too Tall" Jones? He was 6' 9"

Doug Atkins was 6' 8"

Jason Taylor was 6' 7"

Bubba Smith was also 6' 7"

Callais Campbell is 6' 8"

Ben Davidson was 6' 8"

and Marcus Davenport is 6' 7" (and may still grow as he's only 22yo)...

I get Kirwin's thought, it reminds me of Pittsburgh drafting guards that were no more than 6' 3" that way they could get under defensive linemen and run the ball better...

It really depends on the player, their ability to adjust.

One thing I love about tall DEs is that if they're disciplined and maintain their edge, QBs have to lob the ball to RBs with a higher arc over 'em, giving LBers more reaction time...

And tall DE's can bat down a lot of short passes, taking away that part of the West Coast Offense...

Those are all superb athletes that are able to play with that height. For every one of those there are 100 tall guys that can't get out of their own way. The caller I was referring to had stated that he was excited about some UDFA because he was 6'9". Kirwan was pointing out that being tall is not an indication that a player will be good. In fact, it is usually a detriment unless the player has the athleticism to make use of the stature. Those type of players are rare.

C'mon JP,

Most of the aforementioned guys were 1st & 2nd round draft selections.

Meanwhile Kaufusi is a 26 year old, undrafted rookie trying to make an impression on coaches. One of the struggles for him coming out of college is leverage as AG mentioned in his previous post.

He has his work cut out for him that is for sure.

Major, The referenced Kirwin comment was about height alluding to disadvantage, and I was addressing height not being a disadvantage...

It usually is a disadvantage - unless the player has the talent to overcome that disadvantage. If they clearly did then they most likely would not have gone undrafted. The point Kirwan was making was that excessive height in itself is not a positive trait in football.

As an aside, the four hours of NFL Radio's Moving the Chains with Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller makes the cost of SiriusXM radio well worth the outlay. They cover the intricacies of the game in detail. Personnel groupings, blocking schemes, play calling, defensive sets, receiver routes, etc. 11:00 AM to 3:00 central time.

It's definitely a good show, when I had Sirius pumping through the PA system in our shop, especially draft time, always enjoyed it...

But productivity was much better with Classic Rock, and that's how we rolled...

At the end of the day with regard to DE's, their physical attributes dictate style and the better plays always find a way and with the success of those guys mentioned, height's not an issue, but heart, soul, mind...

No mistake, just friends talking up Saints and Football...

Only mistake is when friends and neighbors stop talking...

I counted 13 WR's on the active roster. 13!

I see no reason why we won't have a legit #2 behind Michael Thomas this season. The question I have is who will emerge?

Cameron Meredith is my guy.

Totally agree with that logic, and I'd add two significant contributors were not only rookies, but came from programs not know for developing wideouts...

Have more reservations about Meredith than you, but if he finally hits - it will be gold!
