LOL... he does catch the ball fairly incredibly but he only runs a 4.65 40. Still, he is a very interesting potential player down the road.

That’s a pretty good possibility. I like his long-term potential.

So Lil'Jordan Humphrey, at his size, is as fast as Jerry Rice was...

When looking at 40 times, you really have to skew size and other factors...

His seam routes will inevitably involve YAC, yards after contact, but at his size, not very corner, or even safety, is going to be effective in tackling him...

I don’t know what to do about back-up OT. Michael Ola is no good. I don’t think we have the back-up on the roster yet.

Yeah, and if history of the team under Payton tells us anything, they'll be several roster moves in the first two weeks of the season...

Backup OT wasn't a concern last year because Peat would kick out as he'd always done; but, in light of his conditioning and probably lack of full recovery, there may be a need for it...

Then again, it might also help Will Clapp's case as he can play effectively at all three interior spots as well as RT in a pinch...

That’s the thing with Peat... They kept him at LG a lot and sent in Bushrod last year to play LT. If Peat doesn’t have that versatility anymore then I don’t know what we’re holding onto him for at $9.6 mil.

Was there another option at that price on the market?

Norwell would've been the only upgrade, but he signed for significantly more than that...

And I didn't get that either with Bushrod as he did very well in Miami as a LG, guess the wanted continuity for Peat and didn't kick him out when Mr. Glass took holiday...

Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

Man, the more I look at our receiving optons, it comes down to this question:

What four of five to keep among Keith Kirkwood, Dan Arnold, Cyril Grayson, Austin Carr, and Emmanuel Butler...

  • Keith Kirkwood has the best hands I've seen on the team and given his development as a WR didn't begin till the NFL, that's a lot of talent there...

  • Dan Arnold has developed well, even if it wasn't a new postion, despite fans' obsession of two plays; am more concerned he's plateaued adding bulk to be an effective, all-around TE...
But I really like having four (4) TEs...
  • Left Cyril Grayson off the roster, but he has rare speed; then Ted Ginn is 34yo; and Grayson's a legit RS threat himself; so few burners at WR; yeah, I'm rethinking leaving him off my projected roster...

  • Austin Carr has reliable hands and disciplined routes; has spent a lot of time in our offense; concerned with letting that walk-off...

  • Don't know enough about Emmanuel Butler's injury to know if he'll be fragile; but he sure looks like every bit of Marques Colston; may need to cement his job Week four...

Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

RB: 41 Alvin Kamara, 28 Latavius Murray, 27 Dwayne Washington, 32 Devine Ozigbo

I have to keep four RB’s. If makes me too nervous having any less.

WR: 13 Michael Thomas, 19 Ted Ginn Jr, 10 Tre’Quan Smith, 18 Keith Kirkwood, 17 Emmanuel Butler, 11 Deonte Harris

Not knowing the nature of Kirkwood’s injury, this is who I have making it right now. In this scenario, Butler would be inactive on game days while he develops. The team may very likely keep Austin Carr instead of Butler and try to sneak the latter onto the practice squad.

TE: 87 Jared Cook, 89 Josh Hill, 85 Dan Arnold, 85 AJ Derby

Dan Arnold has the occasional concentration lapse, but the man makes some excellent catches too. He has no issue making catches down the seam knowing he’s about to get drilled by a safety. I’m keeping AJ Derby as well. With really bad depth on the O-Line I want an extra TE that can block.

Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

CB: 23 Marshon Lattimore, 25 Eli Apple, 39 Kayvon Webster, 34 Justin Hardee

Nickel CB: 26 PJ Williams, 22 Chauncey Gardner-Johnson

That’s right folks, no PRob. He’s had no first-team reps at nickel and he’s shown this preseason that he has no value on the outside. Here’s the issue though: we have to trade him. If we cut him it’s a $5.25 mil cap hit. Trading him will only carry a $1.25 mil cap hit with $4 mil in space opened up. He’s likely to only fetch a late-round pick but I think it’s a smart move.

FS: 43 Marcus Williams, 33 Saquan Hampton

SS: 24 Vonn Bell, 48 JT Gray

We don’t know the nature of Hampton’s injury so it could be Banjo in his place. Assuming Hampton is fine, I’m cutting Banjo because he’s been awful. I like what I’ve seen from JT Gray. He’s great on special teams and seeing him get reps with the 2’s last night made me think the coaches like him more than the fans.

Re: 2019 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

Chris, per Over The Cap...

Cutting Chris Banjo would result in $1.45mil dead cap money and only $50K in savings; trading him would reduce the cap hit to $600K and $900K in savings...

Banjo, like Robertson, has a guaranteed contract this season virtually guaranteeing a roster spot...

So either we take the hit or trade Banjo if we want that slot for Hampton...

And I'm in your camp there, I'd prefer to keep Hampton...

D’oh! You’re right about Banjo. Nobody will trade for him though. That’s ok... we normally keep five safeties anyway and I’m classifying CGJ as a nickel CB.

FS: 43 Marcus Williams, 33 Saquan Hampton, 31 Chris Banjo

Not necessarily, sometimes you get those wink-wink, nod-nod deals where you trade a guy for a cond'l pick if he makes the roster or starts 50% of the games deal with another friendly trade partner...

But I'd be really surprised we take a $1mil cap hit to cut a reserve/kick coverage player...

I suppose Hampton’s been MIA so if he ends up on IR then it’s a non-issue. Keeping Banjo puts me at 54 on my projection though and I have no idea where to subtract one.

Right, huh?!? Have never a Saints Roster this deep. It's not perfect, but in the day and age of Free Agency/Salary Cap, some dumb luck with UDFA and the Draft, this roster is as solid as any contender...

Just like they "snuck" Ryan Griffin? If he should make it he can be signed by another team then the Saints would then have to promote him to the active roster to retain him. See Boston Scott. Did anyone notice his "Bruising" one yard TD run in the Eagles first Preseason game?

I'm still amazed how many fans want to write-off this talent; no one b*tched about the officiating in the NFCCG until the infamous "no-call", but he was mauled in the end-zone by two Rams defenders and "no-call"...

Fans have no appreciation what he's been tasked - learning a new position, IN THE NFL NO LESS; as well as being asked to bulk-up, likely a minimum of 30lbs, IN LESS THAN A YEAR; and learn to be an in-line blocker!

Yeah, Derby is a good change of pace and has good size; know many are excited, big on Cook, but I look at that man's skinny legs and his career numbers, he's not a full-time starter, but a great complimentary TE...

So having four (4) TEs gives us different looks and match-up opportunities...

The thinking is Davenport will be brought in on 3rd and long from what I think I heard so being the starter might not mean much. They will be switched out often or, both in the DL. It's scenario based and less to do with Davenport is inferior.

Starting a guy (Trey) who is still a liability against the run? Let's be real for a second. TRex has had good games in pre season but he's been disruptive against backups, 2nd tier guys & players who are truly on the bubble for their respective ball clubs. On passing downs, sure insert Trey as part of the rotation but to start ? ...

Careful here.

FWIW, Davenport looked good vs Jets 1's.

I re watched the Jets game ... Devine has soft hands out of the backfield. So fluid to say he's a rookie. In Sean Payton's offense ...that's huge. He is that guy some were looking for in Boston Scott last camp.

If I'm the Saints RB coach, I can't cut Dwayne (s/t ace) or Ozigbo. They both bring value to the table.

So we'd keep a fourth RB that's pretty much exclusive to special teams? Definitely agree Ozigbo gives you something on third downs - and he looked like a better runner between the tackles...

Zach Line can give you that same plodding boom-boom-boom that Washington gives you; Zach Line came into the league as a RB, holding rushing records in the NCAAs...

I still believe Sean will stick with the proven vet (Dwayne) however you aren't going to be able to hide Ozigbo on the p/s.

Now with Dwayne getting concussed (dirty hit if you ask me) vs Jets, Devine will get more than enough touches vs Miami for coaches to evaluate and discuss.

I’d really rather have a healthy Buck Allen over Washington.

I just read that PRob's contract is fully guaranteed this season so highly doubtful he goes anywhere for 2019.

** It's specified in the 2nd bullet point under "Contract Notes"

I told my wife I wanted Ozigbo to make the team, just because I like saying his name more than Washington.

I'm also not feeling Patrick Robinson. Yes he was on the Eagles Super Bowl roster, but the two years he fully started for us were the listless, uninspired bad defense, 7-9 type years, and he was part of the all-time worst defense under Spags. Maybe the coaches and people see things in the analytics, bringing him back, but I'm just not feeling him in my gut.

Damn, he'd worked so hard too - he needed a TE number, that FB number jinxed him...
