For a split second, I forgot the Saints signed FA Sylvester Williams this off season. Former 1st rounder, seasoned vet and has been a solid run stuffer.

Maybe he shows well enough at camp to claim a roster spot & join the DT rotation (David O suspended) in game 1 vs Houston.

You can never have enough pass rushing guys who can collapse the pocket and bring consistent pressure.

Can see keeping the veteran, Sylvester The Big Cat, with Stallworth as Ready-One rotating with the Big Ony and/or Malcolm in the Middle; Sylvester spelling the NT...

Saquan really needs to shine on special teams to ensure a roster spot or at worst, practice squad candidate.

** EDIT ** Didn't realize that I'd already commented on Saquan in a previous post.

Not sure how I missed your post on these XVI - ...

Both could be good problems to have but they'll have to perform in a extra ordinary way to take a spot from Stallworth. FWIW, the Saints scooped up Tuttle right after the draft, so this could be a guy that Coach Nielsen saw at his Pro day has a plan for down the road. If there is anyone who knows & sees potential talent on that D line, it's Coach R Nielsen.

WR - Cameron Meredith ... I want him to succeed in the slot however I don't believe his knee will ever be 100% again. He can't help if on the sideline in December when we start to make that final "push" for post season position.

I do agree with him on the TE's though ... Dan Arnold didn't show up when the lights were on in 2018 and a young, hungry lion (Alize Mack) aims to take his spot.

Oh and yes, it's just a matter of time for Ken Crawley. His confidence is gone. Kayvon Webster is an upgrade, a seasoned vet and plays on special teams. I hope Saquan Hampton does enough to earn practice squad spot. Someone that could be worth developing.

Can't wait for training camp :bng:.

DE is looking pretty bad now that Granderson will not be in the mix. Granted, if we were relying on an UDFA to give us meaningful snaps then we were not in great shape anyway.

There was an article that said Vince Biegel is getting more pass rush snaps... But he doesn’t have great length. Maybe Porter Gustin surprises.

Mario Edwards has said that the coaching staff very clearly stated he’ll be a 3-technique.

Sam Acho
Nick Perry
Derrick Morgan
Wilkerson

... experienced vets who are NFL "ready" & can get to the QB and are available at the moment. Trust me, the Saints coaching staff have a plan B at DE behind Davenport & Cam.

** Trey Hendrickson aka TRex needs to step up his game in 2019.

According to Wyoming stats for 2018, Carl had 28 solo tackles, 12 assisted & 3 sacks. Not exactly tearing it up. Saints coaches probably saw a high motor, "raw" talent who could contribute on special teams.

It won't surprise me if the Saints brought in a vet (team position casualty) post training camp.

Careful - you've got to skew those numbers because:

a) he didn't have a great defensive line anchoring the middle at WY

b) college runs the ball a whole lot more, hence the 28 solo tackles which is high for a Defensive End...

Waiting to hear the details of this sexual assault come out; but if he did force his self - I don't want him wearing the Fleur-de-lis, not for a SEXUAL or DOMESTIC assault...

Okay, I'm gonna seem like I'm talking outta my arse, but keep in mind, I've been critical of what it took to get Davenport, not Davenport, who was a fine draft prospect (not my fave)...

That said, yeah, will miss Okafor who showed up and played himself into a great contract, but we now have a former first round pick who can rotate with Cam, Davenport, and Trey-Rex - that's not too shabby...

Now Davenport SHOULD (cue Mora clip) be healthy, will have been in an NFL strength program for a year, and is now acclimated, rested with a full off-season that doesn't include stressing his body for the Draft...

Davenport will be the key though...

Brothers and Sisters, our 2018 rookies on DE and WR, and OL will be the difference this year...

The Saints went after Ziggy, Robert Quinn and Gerald McKoy this off season in FA. God forbid anything happens to Cam J or Davenport, we are in deep s***.

Saints need a 4th DE & it won't surprise me if we bring in another vet post training camp.

With Granderson out of the mix in 2019, I'd keep an eye on this guy (Porter Gustin) at camp. Came from a big time program, has a non stop motor & similar frame to CG. Looking at his body of work, he sets the edge really well. Health issues is the knock on him though.

Training camp awaits

NCB (2) 21 - Patrick Robinson, 22 - Chauncey Gardner (R4P3, #105), 35 - Marcus Sherels (FA 2019), 39 - Kayvon Webster (FA 2019)

This ^^ ^^^ position hadn't been talked about enough ...

Rez could probably break down better than most here but I believe the slot is an extremely difficult position on D ... guys can go across the field, in & out or even up the field. Not to mention you have to worry about getting rubbed off the line. We'll face some good slot (Cobb, Lockett, Kupp & Sanu twice) WR's in 2019.

PRob & Chauncey Gardner are good problems to have at the nickel spot.

Actually, we never went after McCoy, so either Payton feels good about DT3 as is and/or in the medicals that Rankins will be back with an impact this season...

Only positions Payton has really tried to address, emphasize from a post-training camp/final 53 situation is interior OL, edge defender, and punt returner...

Ok, minus McCoy :D. My point was I don't think the Saints are completely confident on what we have behind Davenport & Cam J.

Typically you would like 4 DT's (see Philly title team) in the rotation. Right now we have Edwards, Stallworth, Malcolm & maybe a rookie or possibly a proven vet as #4.

I'd be very surprised if we see Rankins before November. I hope the Saints medical team don't have him return but not at anything less than 100%.

NCB (2) 21 - Patrick Robinson, 22 - Chauncey Gardner - Johnson

Having added a talented rookie slot guy in CGJ ... added pressure for PRob to perform in 2019.

Don't forget, PRob was our highest-rated CB out-the-gate last season until injury...

FS (2) 43 - Marcus A. Williams

Hadn't talked much about him this off season however I think he'll play a lot better for 2019. Especially since we are stout on the D line, not to mention we have a solid LB core.

Year #3 is the true test Marcus.
