I'm thinking if we fix the G situation and get a speedy WR that can catch the ball to go along with Thomas, we should be able to stretch the field opening up the deep ball, will Brees be able to hit the deep ball consistantly as the season wears on ? Myself, I've started doubting he can. In a managed intermediate range, he's still pretty good. If Payton wants to win with Brees he's going to have to fix a few things( a strong run game), or it's going to waste Brees slowly away.

I’ll answer...no. He won’t be able to hit the deep ball.

Yeah the speedy guy will just be a decoy to open up the field. Drew will under throw him that's why Taysom threw the deep shot to Harris

We traded away Cooks because Brees couldn’t hit the deep ball... we have 2 speedy WRs on the team and they are useless because of Drew. Yeah, let’s get another WR that Drew can’t throw to lol

When it comes to intermediate routes, Brees is still elite.

I'd rather have two Lance Moore type WRs (see San Fran) than another "deep threat" like Tedd Ginn.

So yes, upgrade the line. Upgrade CB and LB. Add another RB. But please get us a shifty WR with hands and crispy routes.

I love Brees and for all that he has done for the franchise I want him back as long as he likes to play. But we need more WR help for him but it doesn't need to be a speedster because as stated above, brees struggles with the deep ball nowadays.

Watching Mahomes, Watson and even Tannehill in the playoffs makes me wish we had a QB that could launch the ball like that.

Taysom's throw was under-thrown also. That ball was completed by a couple of inches. But the reason it worked was because the defense was expecting him to run the ball like he does 95% of the time. Hill to Harris, that's an unexpected combination. That's why it worked.
We don't have to throw the ball 50 yards in the air to win. Some on here keep talking about being 5-0 with Bridgewater, how many deep throws did he make?
Moving the chains and giving the defense a chance to rest is what wins ballgames. Not 2 plays and a 50 yard bomb and a tired defense back on the field.

Re: I Want Drew Brees Back IF.......

From my perspective it won't matter if it's Brees, Taysom or 2 Glove Teddy ...

Sean Payton and the brain trust MUST surround the aforementioned QB with better options at wide receiver. Carr, Jordan Humphries, Kirkwood, Ginn, Tre Smith (year 3 and he hasn't progressed) ain't those dudes. Without pulling stats, I think it's safe to say they had less than a combined 50 receptions all season long. Michael Thomas has 150 RECEPTIONS by himself. Just imagine if we didn't have Jared Cook at TE.

It's mind boggling this has yet to be addressed & it part of the reason why we are at home in Mid January. You either bring in a PROVEN COMMODITY @ WR during Free Agency or you DRAFT one. If you don't, it'll be another recipe for heart break in the post season. The Niners were a good team with a nice record but wasn't going to the NFC Championship until Emmanuel Sanders got there.

Brees can't turn those guys into Lance Moore/Slick Willie Snead's anymore.

Saints have one of the best scouting departments in the NFL. It's time to go get a true #2 WR in April's draft. He's out there.
