Actually like Trautman and was surprised he was still on the board...

True, it's just really feckin difficult to wrap my brain around trading away all the rest of your picks for one spot in the late third round. Its puzzling and dare I say a bit troubling. This was not a sound decision any way you slice it and you wonder who pulled the trigger and wtf were they smoking at the time.

Let's face it, TE is really a need. Last time we took a RD 3 TE it worked out well. All the picks that we had for tomorrow probably wouldn't have made the team honestly.

I can’t wrap my brain around it either. But I have to research Trautman more first because I dedicated no time at all to watching this TE class. We might have a good one here.

Why are people still crying. With the lack of a proper off season and the roster being as stacked as it is the chances of later picks making this year especially are limited.

Seems some people just want to whinge if no LSU player get Drafted, they don't trade back or trade up.

Look at the draft for the last 3 seasons, these people have a damn good idea what they are doing. And there's still plenty of vets out there to fill any holes

I'm in the minority, but I'd take Arnold back on our roster for training camp in a second...

And I'd slap No. 12 on him and make him a WRs/TEs...

Maybe, maybe not. I would really have liked to see another WR. This draft is said to be possibly the deepest ever at the position, and beyond MT and Sanders we have nothing but question marks and disappointments.

Just trying to be optimistic. I wanted another WR as well, but what is left honestly? Maybe this guy steps in right away. His college numbers are impressive. We also tend to do an above average job at finding UDFAs at skill positions.

Some outlets had this guy rated as the number one TE in the draft!

There are a few LSU players, in any given year, who some of us want. It's not because we're LSU fans. It's because LSU consistently puts out NFL stars. If that bothers some people, then maybe they have too much bias on THEIR end.

But nobody is talking about LSU players here. Look at how much they gave up for one player. It's crazy. I don't know where this "stacked roster" argument is coming from. Like every player on the team is a star? You build the future by stocking up on young talent. Rosters turnover, every year. That's what free agency and the salary cap does.

Disagree. People keep parroting that same "deep roster" line. How many times in recent years have we thought we had a deep roster, only to find out we were dead wrong? Whether through injuries or guys simply not playing up to the standard, we consistently fall short. Depth and competition is a must.

Let's also take into account what a terribly poor business decision this is. I understand things are a bit different right now, that doesn't justify throwing common sense to the wind and trading away the rest of your draft for one guy in the late third round. There's no defending that, I'm sorry.

stacked to lose at home in WC round

To stand here and pretend this was wise is intellectually dishonest.

No where close to the speed Graham had. No way he is anything near Jimmy in his prime. But that doesn't mean he can't be a traditional Shockey type. He's huge, big in red zone. Probably blocks well too

Well, maybe we can send Warford for a Day 3 pick?

Still have SMU's James Proche (comparable Lance Moore), Wash St's Dezmon Patton (c. to Colston), Tulane's Darnell Mooney, Boise St's John Hightower (c. Meachem)...

Well, Jimmy didn't do much when he left NO. Jimmy didn't have this guys resume coming into the league either. I'm just going to trust the process.

Very true. We just won’t know if it was worth it until he hits the field. The unfortunate thing is how harshly he’ll forever be judged by fans because of the trade up.

has nothing to do with trusting anything. Jimmy Graham was an athlete. He was freakish fast for a TE and tall. Yeah this kids tall, but that's the end of the similarities. Jimmy wasn't a great blocker. This kid will probably do better with blocking. They're nothing alike.

Jimmy was a hybrid

Hope he's worth five picks

Well if he lines up on the same side as Peat he can probably help him up after he gets knocked off his feet

1 of 2 possibilities
1. Hope hes like Troutman
2. Don't be a trautman

He'll line up next to RT Ryan Ramczyk more often than not...

Re: Saints Draft Days Official Thread

There are hidden gems still left on the board and Loomy and Payton give up the rest of the draft for a TE, seems lazy not trying to do better on their homework. Also give up a 3rd next year on a lb'er. His trend to trade up is becoming habitual. Hope these guys are worth it but giving up this many picks on a TE in the 3rd I highly doubt it. Unbelievable!! Never compare Payton to BB, their nothing alike, not even close.

Not that Dayton is a powerhouse, but it says something that this kid is #1 in rec and yds at Dayton all time. He's far from just a blocker.

I dont understand Payton sometimes, we've needed to draft some receivers for years and he just ignores it year after year.

Last year he drafted like 5 safeties instead of grabbing a WR and then cut like 3 of them.

FinSaint 04-25-2020 04:41 AM

Re: Saints Draft Days Official Thread

Wow. Fell asleep while waiting for the draft to begin. :)

I like the picks they made, and I'm not too upset that they gave up all of their picks this year to take the TE nor that they gave up next year's third round pick for the LB, since they are getting the comp pick.

If all three of these guys were really in their top 40, then that's great in my view - I'd rather have quality over quantity at this point when the Saints are chasing the Lombardi and not rebuilding.

Going into the draft, I heard from variety of sources that the Saints were going into the draft with the least amount of needs or holes to fill in their depth chart, so in light of that it makes sense they tried to limit the number of draftees and go for the guys with the best odds to succeed and contribute immediately.

And lets be honest, Hill is very average as a TE, so potentially getting a baller, who can help the run and screen game with his blocking prowness will be awesome.

And Anzalone played the entire 2018 season (16+2), so he has the ability to stay on the field contrary to what many are saying on these boards.
